Confidence will always be confused with arrogance. They go hand in hand. Just keep being you. If your that guy getting the attention, who gives. The quiet guy who has some confidence is probably going to be single or end up with Anna Nicole 2001 issue.

Oh! Good question. Not too sure about this one, but I'll offer my two quarters.
I think they are very often confused. However, I think they are most often confused among those who have no confidence. Weak-willed men will often assume that an arrogant person has confidence, and that confident people are often arrogant. It's a defense mechanism, keeps them out of the tumultous path of the arrogant and keeps them feeling superior to those with genuine confidence.
Savvy women can tell the difference instanteously. Arrogance is boisterous and loud and looks for an external outlet. Confidence can be very quiet, subtle and is sensed, rather than smacked in your face. Confidence needs no approval, whereas arrogance is constantly hunting for it. Unsavvy women confuse the two, and mistakenly assume arrogance means confidence, and thus are attracted to it.

Not often enough! People today are confused or unable to tell the difference b/c in most cases haven't discovered 'confidence' themselves and in place of confidence they are 'arrogant' thinking they are coming across as confident. Therefore exposing they have absolutely no 'confidence' b/c being 'arrogant' shows that they are extremely insecure and ashamed of who they really are.
I as a woman am attracted to a man with confidence. An arrogant man is unable to express feelings that are true b/c an arrogant man is unsure of himself so how can he be sure about anything else? Not to mention cocky and falsly self assured.

I don't know about the attractive to women part. I am very confident in life as are many people. We often get branded as arrogant but as we are confident we can deal with it!

Very often. Depends on the person and their own personality. What seems arrogant coming from one personmay seem like justified confidence from another.

In my mind, confidence does not require boasting or bragging. It can and should be quiet and reserved. People who know they're always good at something don't feel the need to tell everyone a;ll the time.

but

People who are "overly vocal" about their abilities would have no need to be were they as good as they say. Boasting and outward arrogance are forms of "self reinforcement" - as the person in question is not convinced really that they are as good as people think so must push the issue for the sake of their own ego.

Easy to spot when you think about.

Most people seem to get this wrong. Mr Kumkuat especially. It's not about "owning" other people. You definition of confidence is the absolute pinnacle of arrogance.

As some stated earlier, arrogance requires an external outlet. You cannot be arrogant on a desert island, you can be confident.

Confidence is an internal state that needs no proof and needs no external confirmation. A confident man doesn't compare himself to others, there is no need. He no more needs to "own" a room full of people than he needs to own the wind. He knows that he will always get what he needs out of life and will face down the challenges.

Arrogance needs others, it is paranoia manifest. It's the fear that others are better, and the proving to yourself that they are not. It's the weakness of needing to know your place, of relying on others for your self esteem. It is walking into a party and thinking "I own everyone here".

I think we can tell which is most attractive.

Usually you can tell the two apart. Arrogant people are just plain self centered and only care about themselves. Confident people will always try to help others without putting themselves first. Any right minded woman would choose a self assured confident person. There is no other option.

Confidence is when you believe in yourself and your abilities, arrogance is when you think you are better than others and act accordingly. You could say that arrogance is false confidence and the person is overcompensating for their inadequacies.

Women do prefer the dominant male. Just look at Simon Cowell, for God's sake, he's confident AND arrogant. I don't see the appeal myself, but women seem to fall at his feet. I think they want to feel protected by his dominance over others and also to pass on his dominant genes to their offspring, so they will be dominant too.

I was always attracted to a guy who had confidence in himself. To me the difference is if your confident, you know your good at what you and don't have to prove it anyone but yourself. If your arrogant your not as good at what you do and try to convince everyone else you are.

I'm confident, and mistaken for arrogant or conceited. It really hurts my feelings, because it took me a long time to rebuild my self worth and I'm proud of myself. I "do like" a man who exudes confidence in the face of the world but a man who is arrogant and aggressive in the bedroom. Sorry if thats TMI, but it's my answer.
