It really depends on who you work for. The purpose of a uniform is that the person wearing it is easily recognizable as a representative of that agency or company. Many private companies who require a uniform do not want their employees expressing any personal belief or opinion while representing the company. Some others are more lax on personal expression.
Basically, If the employer allows it, then it is permissible. However, If the employer doesn't allow it and that isn't acceptable to you then I recommend you find another employer.
I wear a uniform for my job. My necklace, which is a symbol of my faith, is under my shirt and can't be seen. Company rules. My ring however, which is allowed, has a small version of that same symbol.

That depends on the kind of work. If you're working for the post office, you shouldn't have something visible. It can be a cross worn under your shirt. But if you're working in the private sector, and you're required to wear a uniform, it depends on the rules in that region of the country where you work and the policy of the company. A general rule is that it can't be showing, but it can be worn as long as it's unseen.

It is highly improper to wear any non military symbols on your uniform. Your personal opinion is in your personal time not when in uniform, period

In many jobs where you are active, anything worn around the neck is not a good idea, even ties are not recommended unless they are clip on. Safety is important.
