Mormons are VERY Christian, and on the whole, are good people who care about each other. The Book of Mormon is "another testament of Jesus Christ" from the people on the American continent who were visited by the resurrected Christ. (I simply don't understand why the rest of the Christian community preaches that Jesus is the Savior of the whole world, but refuse to believe that there are other ancient writings from other cultures who knew about Him and were aware of the same signs of His birth.)
I became Mormon several years ago, and it was the best decision I've ever made. As far as I'm concerned, Mormonism is the only religion that can answer the questions... "who am I?", "where did I come from?", "why am I here?" and "what is after this life?"
If you truly want to know what to do... don't rely on my answers (or anyone else's for that matter) Go straight to the source... your father in heaven. Mormons believe that answers are available to us all... that God still has many wonderful truths to reveal to the world... and individuals in their own lives. Do your own research... there are many people who, with reasons of their own, will give you half truthes or just flat out lies about Mormonism... (ummm yes the Book of Mormon has had more than 4,000 changes, but there was failure to mention that those changes were grammatical, not doctrinal) I also suggest attending several church meetings with the missionaries... if clothing for the kids is what you want, just talk to the Womens' Relief Society president, and I guarantee that you will get the help you need... Good luck!

As a "Mormon" (the proper name is LDS from the name of the church: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints), I would recommend that you pray about it. Read the Book of Mormon (this is where the nick-name came from) and pray about it. I can tell you that this is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Check out the web site for more information.
As someone said before me, we do believe that the full truth of Christ's Gospel was taken from the earth when there was no one worthy to hold his true Priesthood. (Ask your missionaries to explain this further.) And it is a fact that the "complete truth" was never removed from the earth. Just study and learn for yourself.
I can tell you that you will never regret becoming part of our church. Check out the site below for all the information you could ask for. Under "Scriptures" you will find full texts of the King James Version of the Holy Bible, The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price. At other points you will find other facts about our faith.
I'm sure you will receive answers to your question here denouncing our faith; but I promise you that if you pray about it sincerely and ask the Lord to guide you to the truth, you will know for yourself. I was raised in the LDS Church, but I had to go through my own conversion when I doubted the very existence of God and this worked for me.

They also believe that Jesus and Satan were brothers. They received their doctrine from magic glasses found in a cave. I love the Mormon people and studied this religion extensively, I have the book of Mormon and I have been to the temple in Salt Lake City to visit with them. I am not Mormon, I have Mormon friends and they are great people. I am a non denominational Christian I believe in grace and that I will not earn my salvation that God gave me Jesus as a free gift to pay for my sins and there isn't anyway I can earn my way to Heaven. Check out a Vineyard church or Calvary Chapel, they are good non denominational churches to go to. Visit a few churches before deciding and just pray. Do you have a relationship with Christ? have you asked Him to forgive you of your sins and to come and live in your heart. It's a simple prayer you pray with faith. If you are a Christian you will see that Mormonism and Christianity are two separate things. You will not find Mormon books at a christian bookstore, just FYI.

Simple, if you want to know ask God. He will answer. Additionally, you should not join any church for material benefits, even if it is a fact a certain church takes care of their own, which the Mormons do. The biggest advantage to joining the church is acquiring the knowledge to find happiness and the path to return to live with God.

Well, they're a great community because they all help each other out. They can help you with basic needs if you talk to your bishop, and you will also be expected to serve others, such as volunteering your time for various projects in the community, visiting the sick, cooking or caring for those who can't, etc.
And Mormons are Christian too (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) but they believe that God and Jesus are seperate physical beings, not one and the same. That we are all, including Jesus and Satan, spiritual children of God, and that Satan made the choice not to have a body and come to earth-- he was against the idea of free will, while Jesus advocated free will with consequences for good or bad choices. So followers of Satan will never have happiness because they don't have the free will to CHOOSE happiness, while followers of Jesus will have happiness if they choose to.
interesting ideas.

It is puzzling to many Mormons as well as to some Christians that the LDS is spoken of a cult of Christianity and by Evangelicals as categorically non-Christian. This is becuase they have departed from many key doctrines of the historic Christian faith.
The founder of Mormonism, or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Joseph Smith, Jr., who claimd to have recieved a vision of the Tri-une God when he was 14 years old (in 1820) and a visitation from an angel (Moroni) who instructed him to retreive certain "golden plates."
Mormons believe that the canon of Scripture was not closed when the Bible was completed. They have three sources of authority in addition to the Bible, all of which they believe contain God's revelations -- the Book of Mormon (changed in more than 4,000 places since 1830), Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. However, Mormons follow the teachings of these three books even when they contradict the Bible.
The contrasts between some of the more significant teachings and beliefs of orthodox Christianity and that of Mormonism are here outlined as follows:
(1) The Church
The Mormon Position: Joseph Smith taught that there was a great and total apostasy of the Church as established by Jesus Christ. Moreover, this state of apostasy "still prevails except among those who have come to a knowledge of the restored gospel" of the Mormon Church. In other words, the Mormon Church is the only true church.
The Orthodox Position: Christians throughout church history have believed that the true Church as established by Jesus Christ will never completely disappear from off the face of the earth while this age lasts. Jesus Himself said of His Church, “the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (cf. Matt. 16:18; Jn. 15:16; 17:11).
(2) God
The Mormon Position: The LDS teachings about God departs significantly from the historic Christian faith in the following particulars:
* The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are three separate Gods, who are ‘flesh and bone’ Joseph Smith stated, "I wish to declare I have always and in all congregations when I have preached on the subject of the Deity, it has been the plurality of Gods" and that “the Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's." Brigham Young, the second prophet and president of the LDS Church, said, "How many Gods there are, I do not know. But there never was a time when there were not Gods...."
*The Son and Holy Ghost are the literal offspring of God the Father and His celestial wife
* That God was not God from all eternity, but was once a ‘man’ as we are. In other words, God ‘evolved’ or progressed into Godhood.
*The God of the Bible is but one God out many gods
The Orthodox Position: The Bible teaches and orthodox Christians through the ages have believed that:
*The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost are not separate Gods or separate beings, but are distinct Persons within the one Triune Godhead. Throughout the New Testament the Son and the Holy Spirit, as well as the Father are separately identified as and act as God (Son: Mark 2:5-12; John 20:28; Philippians 2:10,11; Holy Spirit: Acts 5:3,4; 2 Corinthians 3:17,18; etc.)yet at the same time the Bible teaches that these three are only one God.
*Jesus is the unique Son of God; that He has always existed as God, and is co-eternal and co-equal with the Father (John 1:1, 14; 10:30; 14:9; Colossians 2:9). While never less than God, at the appointed time He laid aside the glory He shared with the Father (John 17:4, 5; Philippians 2:6-11) and was made flesh for our salvation; His incarnation was accomplished through being conceived supernaturally by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin (Matthew 1:18-23; Luke 1:34-35).
*God is Spirit (John 4:24; 1 Timothy 6:15,16), without flesh and bones (Luke 24:39). He is not a man (Numbers 23:19; Hosea 11:9; Romans 1:22, 23), and has always (eternally) existed as God — all powerful, all knowing, and everywhere present (Psalm 90:2; 139:7-10; Isaiah 40:28; Luke 1:37).
*There is only one True and Living God and apart from Him there are no other Gods (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10,11; 44:6,8; 45:21,22; 46:9; Mark 12:29-34).
This is just a sampling of how Mormonism has departed from the cardinal teachings of historic Christianity. By "histori Christianity I do not at all mean a certain denomination; but all denominations that uphold the doctrine of the Trinity, the Incarnation, the Church Universal; etc. etc.
It is a good thing to join a local church community, but please choose one that is orthodox (correct) in their beliefs.
