I'm thinking probably because someone was killed and, in case you hadn't heard, the police investigate those types of situations. That combined with the fact that there is some radioactive material that was smuggled into the country and is contaminating the environment would make for excellent reasons to conduct some type of investigation. Of course, that's just me spouting off too so don't take my word for it. I know, fly over there and interrupt their schedule and ask them. I'm sure citizens from around the world need another poster child for STUPID AMERICANS!

The British are sworn enemies of Russia. They HATE secrets and the ex-communists in the Kremlin. Given this background of British loathing against Russia, it is no surprise that they want to do eveything in their power to drag Russia through the muddied snow.
