My 14 wk old boxer puppy has developed a slight, throaty cough that almost sounds like she is trying to cough something up. She is still eating and drinking fine. She is still lively too. She has had all of her vaccinations. Should i take her to the vets?
Any suggestions?

My first thought is worms, they sure do that to a pup at just about that age. Has she been de-wormed each 3 weeks untill tested clear?

It surely sounds like kennel cough, dry hacky nonproductive cough. It can get worse where the throat actually becomes inflamed and the feeding habits change when that happens. You do not need the vaccine at this time you need antibiotics and cough medication. See your vet. It is not a life threatening thing. It is a airborne virus that a dog can get by simply being in the right place where a carrier has been. As a veterinary technician I see it quite often. With a boxer puppy I hope you monitor things like this as they are predispositioned to cardiac issues and a cough can be the first sign. Good luck. I love boxers and all of my family have them.

Coughing can be a sign of either a respiratory problem or a cardiovascular problem. I recommend that you take your boxer to your vet for a good physical exam to determine the cause of the coughing. A possible cause of the coughing is cardiovascular insufficiency which may be due to cardiomyopathy or heartworm infection. If the pup is just coughing at night it can be cardiovascular problems.
Someone suggested kennel cough, kennel cough is a very long hacking cough thaT IS NOT ONLY MISERABLE TO THE PET BUT MISERABLE TO THE OWNER. kennel cough is a continuous cough.
Get the pup to the vet it may be nothing but it is best to be safe than sorry if the cough persists.

My boxer puppy also had kennel cough. We stupidly got her from a pet store and a week later she was hacking and look like she wanted to throw up. This is serious, take her to the vet immediatley. We did, but sadly she had a whole list of problems with her but sadly it was too much for her =[... She could no longer breath on her own and she was extermely sick. After two weeks in the vets office and $2000 he decided it would be best to euthanize her..Your puppy may not "die" but if there is other problems, along with kennel cough she could end up sicker than she is now... Hope this helps in some way

You can't see worms in their stools, the vet checks under a microscope.
She may have picked u[ kennel cough when you tooke her in for her puppy jabs, phone the vet and describe the cough to them.

some boxers have heart murmers which would cause this kind of cough. Get the vet to check the dog's heart.

Probably Kennel Cough. Most dogs shake it off after a few weeks and so long as it doesn't interfere with her day to day activities she won't need much treatment.
Keep her out of draughts to avoid secondary infections and cut her walks shorter so she has plenty of rest.
Keep her eyes clean- you'll probably notice a bit of gunk in the corners when she wakes up.
She'll be fine!

Sounds like kennel cough, it should go away in a few days. If it seems bad, the vets can help.

Hello, when we first got our boxer pup he had kennel cough. Its very common with puppies. You will need to take her to the vet, they will give her some antibiotics. It will clear right up.

Good luck
