If the objective is to be warned, a cat knows first that something is up.
It won't attack an intruder, but that doesn't mean it cannot. The only time I've gone up against a seriously p*ssed off cat - I lost. Badly. A room of the house had to be closed off until it had calmed down (about 8 hrs.).
I've never lost to dog, not even had one that was prepared to take me on for longer than a few seconds.

Maybe by guard she does not mean that the cat would do anything but alerts her to movement outside etc. My cat is the same, if there is someone coming up the path or lurking near the house he will be at the window before I hear a thing.

Cats have four hands stuffed with razors, they move like greased lightning and they go for your eyes. You've never been attacked by a cat. Vets wear heavy leather gaunlets to treat some cats.
And there was a case where a burglar was severely bitten by a rabbit. Rabbits can bite through wood so his ankle was a bit of a mess and the police picked him up in casualty.

They once featured a cat who who saved her humans from a burgler (or worse). The amazing thing is, the cat is blind. Apparently, this blind cat had a cat tree (or condo) which he liked to perch on. In the wee hours of one fateful morning, a burgler eased his way into the house through a living room window left open. The cat tree was near that window. The burgler never got far becuase as soon as he was in the house, this blind cat unerringly launched himslef on the man's head and clawed away. The burgler - probably more alarmed, suprised and frightened than really hurt, left through the same open window in a hurry. The humans waoke up from raucous, went down stairs and found the cat, the open window, droplets of blood on the window sill and one of the burgler's running shoes. They called the police who was amazed that a blind cat could protect his humans like that. I think the show was "Animal Miracles."

If she had my Cat Darcy, when you enter the room she goes all psycho on you. Darcy will start clawing at you and biting you.
She could be a great guard cat.

Have you ever got into a fight with a cat?

Wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Those claws will cut you to ribbons, and the teeth clamp down to your bones.
