It's adrenalin. I know of a Doc who actually takes the heart medicine propanolol before he has to do any public speaking. But DON'T try this at home!!!! It significantly lowers your blood pressure and could be very dangerous...deadly in fact. But you could try some yoga breathing it lowers the heart rate and the "alarm system" that pumps adrenalin. But it's natural and safe..and effective. And you can do it wherever you are right up to the second you need to step in front of the class. Yoga breathing is about concentration and breathing control by controlling the rhythm of your breath. Look up some yoga sites.Basically you breath in slowly to the count of five, hold the breath to the count of five, exhale to the count of five, and wait to the count of five before the next inhale..concentrating only on your breathing, not on your next task. Still check out the sites or books.(On Hatha Yoga) For good breathing techniques try Richard Hittleman.

Public speaking scares us all. A study shows that more people are afraid of public speaking than dying. The only way to get through it is to just do it. You will eventually be left out on a limb in public and be embarressed, but it's part of growing. It's what you do with that experience that will either make you stronger or more shy.

There are a lot of people out there who always turn to medicines and herbal remedies to relief the overwhelming feelings of anxiety. While this is one of the ways to deal with anxiety but it is not necessary the best way.

While I believe that these things can be helpful at times, I also think that consuming too much of these might bring more harm than good in the long run. There are a few less conventional methods but effective ways of reducing anxiety and one of them will be meditation. Many people may think that meditation is a foreign concept and there are some who believe that meditation is something that must be learned and studied for a long period of time before it can be mastered. The truth is, meditation is just a method of calming the body and mind. The key is to focus in practicing relaxation techniques.

Anyone can meditate, and the benefits of meditation can have an effect on anxiety in a very short time. If you are meditating, it is best to look for a quiet and undisturbed setting, and a comfortable place for you to sit or lie down. You can turn on some soothing relaxing music such as the sound of ocean waves, birds chirping, raining, sea gulls, or simply meditate in complete quiet and peaceful environment. The key to effective meditation is finding what works best for you.

After finding the right preference of settings or the most suitable atmosphere for meditation, you will then need to set aside time to practice it daily. Now just close your eyes and take several deep, slow breaths. Try to allow your body and mind to relax as much as possible. This is what I always do, when I meditate, I will imagine myself in a pleasant, peaceful place such as by the ocean or in a meadow. Now you can do this too, just picture yourself in the place of your choice by using as much detail as possible. Focus and your mind will stop racing, all your anxieties and stressful thoughts will be replaced by relaxing images. Relax, breathe in and breathe out slowly and effortlessly. Let your thoughts wander but try to picture yourself in a peaceful and relaxing environment. The more you practice, the better you will become at reducing your anxiety. Think anxiety as a bad habit rather than a syndrome. And in order to break this bad habit, it must be replaced by a better one.

Once you have acquired the habit of relaxation by meditating, it will definitely reduce your anxiety in any situation. Remember, practice makes perfect and good luck!

i have that problem too.. but try this remedy, i know it may sound silly.. hehe well. if ur teacher wont allow you to close your eyes.. then wear contact lense that will completely block ur eyesight.. so u wont see your classmate and wear earplugs so u wont hear anything.. in this way you will feel alone and maybe you can deliver your speech, report. etc... without having to feel like u want to pee.
