Gambling can be fun. When I was in Vegas the last time I read about some guy that put a few dollars into a slot machine and won $12,000,000. Must be nice.

The draw back is that in order to pay out that kind of money, the casino must have many many losers. The majority of people will play and lose. Some people become addicted to the concept of winning money and will literally squander everything they have in the hopes of some big win.

Gambling is like everything else, it can be abused if one does not practice good self discipline.

Some people use this as an excuse to want to ban it, but that is unrealistic unless you want to live in some kind of nanny state where every semi dangerous or risky thing is banned.

In Vegas we say " Vegas wasn't built on winners" This being said, if you can go out with the amount you plan on spending and stick to that, you can have a good time if you play cards meeting people, laughing and joking. You can have a night out of a couple of hours to as little at 15 minutes, this is the drawbacks. Depends on what you are playing, the money can go in a blink of an eye, or you can get lucky and play for a while. The most important thing to remember, when you are winning, cash out!!!! If you sit and play, the "free" drinks are there to get you drunk and play careless. There are very few free drinks in Vegas, some have cost me $50 for a very weak rum and coke.

The appeal: It's fun if you treat it like any other game, and you can win more than what you started with.
The drawbacks: The odds are you will lose more than you win, and too many people take it serious instead of just having fun with it.
When I gamble, I look at it like going to an amusement park or to the movies. I pay to have fun, and I don't expect to get my money back when I'm done. When I win, look at it as a bonus, like winning stuffed animals at a carnival game.

There are no appeals whatsover. Stay out of the Casinos. If you don't do it the first time, then you'll never get hooked on it. A major stain on society
