Pour whisky into a mug, add boiling water (about the same amount as there is whisky) and a teaspoon of sugar. Drink whilst hot. Old scottish remedy known as a hot toddy.

Sadly, no. There is no known cure for the common cold. You can however alleviate the symptoms. And you might be able to reduce the severity and duration of the infection. Things that will help are:
Making sure your nutrition is good (enough vitamins and minerals in your diet).
Drinking enough water - about 8 cups a day.
Getting bed rest.
Supportive medication - like asprin and anti-congestants.
And then, let's be honest, if you're feeling bad, a shot or two of whiskey will make you feel a bit better and will help you sleep. So, if you've got all the other bases covered then go ahead!

Unfortunately not. Colds are caused by viruses. There's no cure but medicine can help build up a tolerance to fight the virus. A shot of whiskey, or a few, might help you through the misery though ; ) Just don't drink if you're taking cold medicines. Cough syrup and alcohol is not a good mix.

There is no cure for the common cold.

However if you have a sore throat you can drink hot tea or hot water with a slice of lemon and a spoon of honey in it. You can add a shot of whisky to that if you like. It won't cure you but will make you feel a lot better.

The reason that Lemsip etc. make you feel better has little to do with the medicine in it and more to do with drinking a hot drink.

In a word `NO`. There are no medicinal properties to whiskey. If you take the whiskey with hot water you may feel better but this is only the effects of the water acting on your nasal passage. Try taking whiskey and hot lemon/lemonade, again the whiskey has no effect, but it tastes good.

I don't think it will cure a cold but for some odd reason it always makes me feel better. Port and brandy works well too.
