The "block" in my radiator we believe has cracked. the oil and water are mixing. Unfortunately, we don't think that's all that's wrong with it. But are not mechanically included to know what. The car is not cosmetically in great or even good condition. However, I am BROKE and am hoping there is a way to get something for this NON-STARTING Volkswagen Passat 1997? Any help would be super! I live in San Francisco in case that helps.

Sure, a junk yard should give you a couple hundred bucks for it. It sounds like you either have a cracked engine block or blown head gasket. That would be the only cause of the oil and water mixing. If you drove it for a while like that, then you probably did some serious damage to the engine.

You can also try ebay. People are always looking for scrap cars for parts.

Call a junkyard or salvage yard. Often they'll give you more for a car if you can drive it there (you don't have that option) or have it brought to them. I don't know about San Francisco but the most you'll get in Saint Louis for a non-starting car is $50.

You should check the head gasket. A cracked head gasket does the same thing you describe. I had an '86 Jetta, it did the same thing. The head gasket can be replaced. Another sign of a cracked head gasket is steam coming out of the exhaust pipe.

sell it to a junk yard... or put an ad out saying you're selling it for parts. a vw passat thats only 9 years old should attract interested 'parts buyers'

yes you can sell it for its parts. also you can donate the car to a local fire station where firefighters practice procedures as if it was a real accident. when you donate it, your taxes get lowered.
