I genrealy only get 2-5 hours of sleep a night on weekdays. Most of those sleeping pills say take 8-10 hours before you plan to wake up. I've tried ambien and thats definatly the case. Even after taking ambien, I'm up for 2-3 more hours, although out of it.
I got some sample packs of lunesta, but haven't tried them yet. I've also tried xanax with absolutely no effect.

I always aim for atleast 5 hours of sleep, but it usually ends up being 2-5 hours of sleep, and by that point its too late to take the prescription sleep pills if i realize i'm not falling asleep tonight.

I do smoke cigs, but my caffiene intake is limited to a glass of mtdew for breakfast.

Like right now.....i was on day 1 of the flu yesterday and only got 2 hours of sleep. Woke up at 8 am and now its 4 am. Laid in bed for 2 hours and nothing.

Being sick , i'm not going to use alcohol as an option, but that tends to not work unless i get drunk.

Any suggestions

1mg of melanin should knock you out for about 3 hours
I'm on Lunesta (3mgs at bedtime) it doesnt keep me asleep for more than a few hours (I took it at 11:30PM, it's now 2:45AM and I'm WIDE AWAKE
Lunesta has a lovely side effect of making everthing taste like rotting flesh smells, my dad used to take Lunesta, but couldn't handle the way it made everything taste (like metallic poop)
I'd never get any quality rest without Klonopin (clonazapam)
When I used to smoke pot, I never had any problem sleeping, but I could never breathe, since you're sick, try what my hubby makes for me, boil water for tea, turn off heat, add 2 teabags, steep 5 mins, add a little honey and lemon for flavor, and a shot of whiskey to cure what ails ya, its great for getting the sleepies and clearing up congestion, and the hot tempurature will make you feel less ookie (sick)
hope that helps

most sleeping pills DO require at least 8 hours of devoted sleep time b/c they are extended release tablets-which means the drug is dissolved little by little over a period of about 8 hours in your system to help keep you from waking up after taking it.

lunesta might work for you but you won't know until you try it.

getting into a strict night routine might help alot too

-go to bed at the same time each night ( there will be times when this is not possible-but try your best to stick to it)
-once in bed-stay there. the only time you should get up is to use the restroom. place a glass of water or water bottle next to your bed in case you get thirsty. getting up b/c you're not sleepy-causes the circulation and your organs to "wake up" which in return, causes them to take longer to slow down when you are finally ready to sleep which keeps you awake.
-don't eat about 2 hours before going to bed-digestion can hinder falling asleep.
-do something that you find relaxing before bed to help prepare you for sleep (a warm shower, reading for a little while)
-devote your room as being used only for sleep. if you try to do other things in there (use the computer, talk on the phone, play loud music, etc) you're body will not associate this room as being used for rest-which interferes with sleeping
-try writing down all the things you have to do the next day or all the things that are worrying you. this will help get them off of your mind, which will help you sleep.

lots of info but i hope it helps!!

i would get the doctor to check you out you may have a
sleeping disorder. i don't know of any sleeping pills that work with just 4hr of sleep you would probally wake-up with that groggy effect you described.
