Generally it is for Matzo ball soup, pressed matzo into balls and a broth soup mix. Runs between flovorless to pretty good depends what is added to the mix.

Well, if not for the recipe on the box, possibly as a substitute for rock salt when you need to melt the ice on your front walkway.

You could use it with added herbs to make dumplings.
You could use it to thicken sauces and gravies with.
You could use it to make a stuffing with - again with herbs.
These are just guesses but that is what I would use them for if I ever did.
