In general, utility conduits are metal or plastic pipes in which utility connections, such as electrical wires, are run either underground or within the walls of buildings. This is done to protect the wires from exposure to the elements or physical damage and to keep people from accidently getting shocked. Most jurisdictions have building codes which define the requirements for types of conduits to be used in various applications.
