I suffer from PTSD myself and so does my husband he is a military vet. There are medicine that you can take but so counseling helps. It is a hard thing to deal with and should not be doing it alone. If you can't afford to go see someone contact your local mental health office and they will get you in contact with a doctor and a councilor that will help you and most times if you can not afford it they will cover the charges for you. Just look in your local phone book under mental health. Try looking in the blue pages for county or government offices. An it is all confidential. Interestingly enough, the same medication that is used to treat benign prostatic hypertrophy (enlargement of the prostate that all men experience with older age) has shown efficacy in treating the nightmares associated with PTSD. The drug is called prazosin, tradename Minipress.

someone has found a med to treat it but i dont think it has been oked yet, ask your doctor.

its both, meds to alleviate the pounding heart etc and cognitive therapy.
