ringing has to do with your inner ear falling "asleep"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringing_in_the_ears

YOu need to see a nose, ear and throat doctor to see if the persistent ringing has to do with other problems. They can do a scan to see if there is anything resting or block on your auditory nerves.

The ringing in your ears is called Tinnitus. It can occur depending on what medications you are taking as a sign of otocixity. It can also be a chronic condition some people get it from pressure in the inner ear. There are several reasons you could have this problem. If you are taking aspirin you may need to discontinue it, but you MUST consult your doctor first. If this is just an occasional occurance that goes away quickly it is probably not something to worry about. If you are worried see an ENT doc.

Ringing in the ear (tinnitus) is usually caused by damage to the nerves in the inner ear resulting from prolonged exposure to loud noise. Other causes include excess earwax, ear infection, dental problems, head or ear injuries, and medications, especially antibiotics and large amounts of aspirin. Excessive alcohol or caffeine intake can also cause tinnitus. In rare cases, tinnitus can be caused by a brain tumor. Most intermittent tinnitus does not require medical treatment. However, if tinnitus is accompanied by other symptoms, becomes persistent, or starts to localize to one ear, a visit to a health professional usually is needed. Often there is no cure for tinnitus, but your health professional can help you learn how to live with the problem.

I'm sorry you have ringing in the ear I have it real bad.I hope you go to a doctor and find out the reason for your ringing and they can rid you of it.
