I think black is a safe color, not like red or blonde... My natural hair color is dark blonde.

I've never dyed my own hair black (as my hair is naturally that color) but I have seen many people who have. True black is definitely not a "safe" color. There are only few people that don't have the haircolor naturally that can pull it off. Not only that, but it's the hardest color to remove from hair. A friend of mine dyed her hair black once, and she too had naturally dark blonde hair. Well, she did it, and it completely clashed with her skintone. (Black hair dye has a tendency to do that.) She didn't like it and decided to try to remove it. She called several hair salons, all of which refused to strip the black dye. Stripping hair of black hair dye is extremely damaging, as it requires alot of bleach. More than say, stripping brown or red dye from hair. Also, the color that results when one tries to bleach or strip hair of that color usually isn't very pretty. (In the case of one person I've seen, an odd dark red shade.) The color that results typically can't be dyed over well either. What my friend ended up having to do was go to a salon and have highlights put in (dark brown, etc.) via bleaching and toning to soften the color. She then had to let it grow out. Dying hair black often looks unnatural as well, as hair dyed this shade tends to have a blue tint or the haircolor looks harsh. It's also, as I have explained here, a commitment. I have recently spoken to a woman I met who is a professional hairstylist, and she informed me that black dye is the hardest to deal with, so much so that she often will not dye a person's hair black even if they request it, as many of the hairdye complaints she receives are regarding someone who has dyed their hair black and now wishes to remove it. I would seriously recommend trying your hair in a dark brown shade instead.

Black is a cool hair color. Just make sure you have it done professionally. My little sister (natural color also dark blond) tried to dye her hair black about a week ago with one of those hair dye kits from the store. Her hair is sort of black now, but at certain angles you can see hints of green as well. Just be careful.

I had a bad experience dying my hair black

it was the day before my ninth grade year (first year of high school) and I wanted to dye my hair black - i took my allowance and went to the grocery store and bought some hair color (small grocery store in a small town) and all they had for black was "loving care" which is meant as a dye to cover gray, but I figured a dye is a dye right? Anyway I followed all the directions and everything looked ok and I blow dryed it and everything looked ok - so my mom took me to town to buy me some new school supplies/clothes and I was in the dressing room at K-mart and I looked in the mirror to look at the butt of the new pants I was buying and my hair had turned bright green.!!! I quickly got dressed and told my mom nevermind the clothes, just get this color out of my hair - we went to the mall just as the salon was closing and I begged one of the girls in the salon to please help me and explained that tomorrow was the first day of school etc....anyway she stayed for about an hour trying to get all of the green out of my hair and the only green that was left was a green strip in the very front - I went to school the next day and everybody thought it was cool so I guess it turned out ok and I never told them I turned it green on accident - I don't know if it was my hair or if it was the hair color but I would not use a dye that was meant to cover up gray no matter how slim the pickins are in the store you get your color from

Yes. One of my friends did, but her complexion is olive and her natural hair color is dark brown. She looked goth and it just was not very flattering.

If you have a fair complexion, be careful because you might end up looking like a pale witch and that would not be good...unless you were going for that look!!! Try dark brown first and then gradually go to black so the change doesn't seem so dramatic! You don't want to scare people!!! :-D

Have a professional do it. They can mix up a shade of black (yes, there are shades) that would work best for you, and look the most natural.

Store-bought black dyes look odd on some hair.

It depends on your skin tone... Yes, I've known a natural blonde who dyed her hair black, and it was HORRIBLE! It washed her out so badly, that she looked dead!

Go to a wig shop, and pick out a wig the color that you want to dye it, and try it on for a second, and see what it looks like! It's free, and you don't have to suffer any major consequences!!!

GOOD LUCK!

dye your hair any color you wish -- beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but if you have dark circles under your eyes a lot, then it is not advisible to dye it jet black (unless goth is your taste), because then it will make you look like the grim reaper forgot to pick you up on his last sweep of the earth....

Just make sure thats what you want to do, once you do it, its gonna be really hard to go back to your natural color. And can cause damage when trying to go back.
