Like wise , i dont know for sure , But DOS [Disk operating system ] was the first to be used as an OS , and eventually Microsoft build newer and better OS , From win 95 to Win Vista

In case of portable computers, it is UNIX.
But if u mean from the age of mainframe comps...then it was CTSS
i.e.:Compatible Time-Sharing System ...
