If you are in the UK then you need to buy something containing aciclovir (Zovirax is the biggest seller).

The cold sore is caused by the herpes simplex virus and it lies dormant in your body all your life and never goes away. You probably got it by being kissed by someone with a cold sore when you were a child. They appear when you are run down / stressed or have a poor diet. Changing these things will help stop it returning. However now that it's there you need the medicine to apply to it to make it go away.

Try not to touch it as it can spread to other parts of your face or body. Do not kiss your partner or even think about oral sex until it's completely cleared up as it can lead to genital herpes.

Buy 2 tubes of Zovirax and keep one in the medicine cupboard. Next time you feel the tingle and itch and know you're going to get a cold-sore, put the cream on before it appears and it can stop it even appearing.

One more thing - don't pick the scab off it thinking it will make it look better, you'll just make it last even longer.

If your doctor will give you a prescription for silver nitrate applicators, you can eliminate them instantly. The doctor can also tell you how to use them so I won't at this time. I use to have canker sores all the time. It got where I couldn't hardly eat as there were 1-2 in my mouth 24-7. So, I got to thinking, "OK, this is a Herpes Simplex II virus and related to the smallpox virus, so what if I got a smallpox vaccination?" I had not had one since I was little and smallpox has been virtually nonexistent in my neck of the woods, so I was not sure I could find a doctor that would give me one upon request. But I did, and voila! That was in 1972 and I haven't had a canker sore since. How's that for a cure?

that's not likely that it really is a "coldsore" that's got here upon outdoors your mouth on the lips. that is likely a canker sore. there is no longer a lot you are able to do yet get some orajel to numb it up. in the adventure that they keep coming again or very last more than 2 weeks you have to be certain your dentist.

I suffer from severe outbreaks on my lips and nose...i've been getting them since i was 12 or so...nothing has ever worked until i tried a last resort method i found on a home remedy site...

1)gently clean the blistering area...working from the outside inwards (just dabbing - a cotton buds best)

2)put an icecube on the area for as long as possible - this works as a kind of hibernation and slows the virus down.

3) dry the area with another cotton bud - again working from outside in.

4 ) cover the area in earwax - i know it sounds gross but it works as a natural seal...

if you catch it early enough the infection shouldnt spread...

if you catch it at the blister stage then the outbreak time should at least half!..

dont let the earwax put you off!!

If you would like a natural Herbal cure instead of putting most of the contents of a chemistry lab on your face, try using simple oil of cloves. It works wonders. it's cheap and doen't contain any harmful chemicals.

you can't exactly cure them. oncce you get one, you have the virus forever. sucks i know! my sister puts an ice cube on hers to reduce the redness and it brings the "fever" down. i read that if you put nail polish remover on the end of a Qtip and hold it on the sore it will quicken the recovery time. good luck
