I've been using chap stick all day and it just makes it worst. What are some other ways to stop my lips from being chapped?

The best thing-and the hardest-is to stop licking them, it just makes it worse. Try to find some Carmex lip balm, comes in a bright yellow tube with a red dome top...it will help. Sponge your lips clean and then apply plain vaseline at bedtime and first thing in the morning.

If you're using chapstick, make sure it's the plain, unscented uncolored unflavored kind, and wash off your lips before you apply.

best wishes,
cryllie

Hey Joey! There's nothing worse than dry lips, I know. I find that some chapsticks can actually make the problem worse (especially if they contain some kind of fragrance).
There's a number of causes for this and you should try and rule them all out first.
Have you changed your toothpaste? Some toothpastes can cause dry lips.
Are you drinking enough water? Dehydration will cause dry lips
With summer just around the corner, have you been at the beach alot, or in the sun alot? Sunburn will cause chapped lips.
Hows your breathing, is you nose clear, have you recently had a cold or flu? If your airways aren't clear at night you will breath through you mouth and this can dry your lips out.
Think about anything that is different in your life, some products we use on the face or high levels of additives in our food can have an adverse reaction. Is anything different?
I find the absolute best stuff for chapped lips is "PawPaw Ointment". It's in a red container and you can buy it at most chemists for about $10. Mine lasts me for years!
Before bed, drown your lips in the paw paw ointment making sure to include the area around the lip line - not too much though, just get those lips covered!
During the day wear a fragrance free SPF30 lip balm, I recommend Ego Sunsense Lip Balm SPF 30+ as the Ego range is soley for people with sensitive skin. You can get this at most chemists for around $6.
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

Good old vasaline will do the trick every time. Wear chapstick during the day because it has a sun protectant but apply vasaline at night when you go to bed. Do this for a week and see if there is an improvement. Don't stop if it gets better because it will only get worse again. Also, most importantly, stay hydrated.

I take a spoonful of olive oil and a spoonful of sugar and mix it. Then I use the scrub to exfoliate my lips. Rub it into the top and bottom lip for a minute. You can do your whole face for a really good scrub. Next rinse lips, face and hands. Apply a lip balm. You can use the sugar and oil for a hand treatmant. Rub it into your hands for a minute then rince in warm water. You will not believe how such a simple thing could work so well and cost nearly nothing. Best of luck to you!

All of the above... I hit a point one time where my lips were flaking away all the time. Don't lick to moisturize them, use chap stick frequently, especially outside, and cover your lips at night with petroleum jelly to seal the moisture in.

try beeswax. before you go to bed put alot of it on and that way it'll stay on through the night. chapstick works just as good. i use chapstick at night when i go to sleep, i promise you'll wake up and your lips will feel a whole lot better. then throughtout the day just keep applying chapstick as often as you like. it works for me!!

chapstick is not making it worse. licking your lips does. you have to let the chapstick stay on so it can do its job. drinking, licking your lips, etc. wipes it off, so each time you have to reapply it, hydrate your bad self...water city, baby 6-8 glasses a day...
