1 cor 15:40
"There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from antoher star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead"!

II Corinthians 12:2, Paul say he knew a man caught up into the 3rd heaven. Logic dictates that if there is a 3rd heaven, there must be a first and a second heaven.
Ephesians 4:10 reads: He that descended (Christ) is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens" - the term "all the heavens" can only be used of a grouping of at least 3 - otherwise the correct grammatical term would be "both the heavens" if it were only 2.
In the creation story we read God created the heavens (plural) and the earth.
It would appear that the 3rd Heaven referred to in the first verse is the Heaven of God - where God dwells (although other verses indicate God transcends even the highest heaven). However it appears from the context of the passage that it is at least the level of heaven where He discloses Himself to His created spiritual hosts.
In Ephesians 2:2, Satan is referred to as the Prince of the Power (or Authority) of the Air. Greek word here is AER, which designates the lower atmosphere as distinguished from the rarified upper atmosphere, designated by the Greek word aether (whence our ether); which is never used in Scripture, but might reasonably correspond to what we refer to as outer space. In Revelation Chapter 12:7-14, a future conflict occurs in the heavenly realm and Satan and his angels are cast out of heaven (evidently same as AER, referred to above), and thrown down to the earth; whereupon he manifests himself incarnate in the person of Antichrist. For further evidence supporting this assertion that Satan and his angels occupy the lower heaven, contiguous with the surface of the earth, see Daniel chapter 10.

Paul writes:
2Cr 12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
This is where the concept of three heavens comes from.
If we compare other scriptures, we find that the three heavens are:
1 The atmosphere: Gen 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl [that] may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
2 Space, where the stars and planets are.
Gen 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
3 The heaven of heavens, where God lives. Beyond space and time.
Psa 115:16 The heaven, [even] the heavens, [are] the LORD'S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

First heaven - Earth Atmosphere
(Deuteronomy 11:17) - "Then the LORD's anger will burn against you, and he will shut the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce...."
(Deuteronomy 28:12) - "The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands."
Second Heaven - Outer Space
(Psalm 19:4,6) - "In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun... It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other;..."
(Jeremiah 8:2) - They will be exposed to the sun and the moon and all the stars of the heavens which they have loved and served...."
Third Heaven - Where God dwells
(1 Kings 8:27) - "But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you."
(Psalm 2:4) - The One enthroned in heaven laughs; The LORD scoffs at them."

The first heaven is the atmospher, where the birds fly. The second heaven is where the stars are. The third Heaven is the domain of God.

Nah, the LDS translate some words to mean 3 heavens. Celestial, Terrestrial and...I forget the third. It's just...people having fun and too much imagination.
OMFG!!! I found an explanation for you on (you'll never guess) Donny Osmonds Official Website! How much fun is THAT? Enjoy!
