Me and my mom are moving to Oregon from California and I will be attending college there. I know you have to be in the state for 12 months (according to University of Oregon). I am moving in Dec. which means I will have been there about 8 months when I start school. Does anyone know when exactly I can start claiming residency? Do I have to wait to the next school year or can I whenever the 12 months ends? I am trying to estimate actual tuition cost. Any info would be great.

Your best bet is to ask the councelors and financial aid office at UofO. They will be able to tell you exactly how the school establishes residency. I suspect that you would have to pay non-resident tuition for the first semester, but then it would drop for the second once you have been in the state for a year. You might consider taking classes at a community college for that first semester as another option for reducing the out-of-state fees.
