I haven't heard this, but I can't see the Kiwi's agreeing to this. They don't mind coming here, but I dont' think they'd like being 'joined' with us. I can't see it as being a 'bad' thing tho. Could be beneficial too, more Olympic Golds all round!

Given the issues we are possibly facing in the future, I think it is the thing to do. New Zealand has active volcanoes and is a prime earthquake zone; if one of those hit big time, it will be great to be able to evacuate survivors to Oz (what few there would be - if any of Auckland's 5 active volcanoes blow up, New Zealand's population is reduced by 75%!). Or if Australia runs out of water or succumbs to bush fires at last, they could all come to NZ. Still wouldn't be half as populous as Austria, and that's a comfy nation. Need I say more? All systems "Go".

This is a very old idea, in fact it is written into the New Zealand constitution that they may one day become a part (a state) of Australia.
Such a union would be wonderful - NZ would keep its capital of Wellington and they would retain their flag, however their federal capital would now be Canberra. They would be part of a much larger and more successful economy as well.
Contrary to what others have said here, there is little cultural difference between the two countries - in fact NZ was originally governed (and was part of) New South Wales.

But is it necessary? Australia and New Zealand have different cultural identity. Why should they mix it. If need be these two Countries can take common positions at international levels. Becoming one Nation is not a good idea.

DISAGREE 110%!!!!!!
I have countless resions.
Which $$$$$ do we use AUD or NZD?????
No sports rivals
2 COMPLEATLY differant native cultures
How would the NZ travel lover get around the world, so many passports would have to change, and the permanate residents might not want to be a citizen (I know one)
I dont see it working the only Upside is that flying will be cheeper and we could dominate the world of sport (But who do we choose???)

It will never happen. Two different countries with different identities, they will always be allies but never one nation.
