I put each type of flour into these pretty new canisters I got and forgot which is which. Now I need to bake a cake! Is there any visible difference or any way I can figure out which flour is which?

Dropkick almost got it! Stir the flours into some water, the self-rising will bubble and foam due to the baking powder in it, the AP flour just sits there. it's almost impossible to taste the difference in the two.

Maybe the self-rising flour will have a salty taste to it; if a recipe states all-purpose flour in the recipe, many times it'll say, "If using self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt".

Taste them. There's not a huge amount of baking powder in the self rising, but you should be able to tell.

Mix a small amount with water and make a dough. Fry it. If it bubbles and rises you know which one it is.
