I just learned that my DVD/VHS recorder is on the fritz and I've been through two in the last four years but the t.v. my parents bout in 1989 stile work and does it very well. for a while there the up stair TV would have to be replace once a year.

what do you think.

yup, there is no money in producing things that work. I bought a microwave 23 years ago, and used it at least once a day until my kids decided I needed a new one 18 months ago and tossed it in the garbage. I'm currently on my 3rd one since then! Older is definitely better

Planned Obsolescence. It's the American way. Get used to it.

Cheap (poorly made, inexpensive) things were not made for poor people. You do have to pay for quality, but there are bargans out there. Look at Consumer Reports (from Consumer Union--Google it) for what electronics last longest and which ones a lot of people are happy with. Educate yourself on cheap crap vs. bargans.
