Was Mary a virgin or was Christ actually the son of Joseph or another man???

The Bible says that Jesus is the son of David, of Abraham. The word ‘son’ means descendent in the original Hebrew and Aramaic text. Descendents and blood lines were very important to the people of Israel. By law you were not a legal descendant unless you were in the blood line.

According to the Bible, Jesus’ blood line runs from Abraham thru David all the way thru Joseph. So, if Jesus was not the son of David and of Abraham, he would not have been in their blood line according to the law of the people of Israel.
(See Matthew chapter 1,verse 1 thru 16.)

We were taught that Mary was a virgin. The original Hebrew word used in the text, ‘almah’, did not always mean virgin. It also meant newly married. The Hebrew word ‘bethulah’ meant only virgin but was not used when speaking about Mary.

We were always taught that Joseph and Mary were not married, yet the Bible says that Joseph planned to secretly divorce Mary when he found out she was pregnant. You cannot get divorced unless you are married.
(See Matthew chapter 1, verse 19.)

Traditionally women were not allowed to be with a man other than their male relatives, much less travel with a man unless they were married. A woman did not leave her home with a man until she was married.

The Bible says they weren’t married yet Mary traveled with Joseph anyway while he wanted to divorce her. Since the text contradicts itself, we have no real way of knowing.

So it is possible that Mary and Joseph were actually married. And if the word used meant newly married then Mary would not have been a virgin as we understand virginity today.

Many concepts were translated to support Christian beliefs. For example, neither wise men nor 3 kings visited Jesus. According to the original Hebrew text the Magi visited Jesus. The Magi were astrologers. Astrology was a big no-no in the Bible so you couldn’t have astrologers visit the baby Jesus! So instead it was mis-translated to something Christians could accept.

And remember, many of characters in the Bible lied and misrepresented themselves through out the Bible. If you read and study the Bible you know this to be true.

Who says Mary and Joseph didn’t make the story up to keep Mary from being stoned to death, as was the custom for women who had sex outside of marriage.

If Joseph really wanted to divorce her, did he think she was pregnant by another man? And who was this man?

Or … maybe … just maybe … she really was a virgin with a child conceived by the Holy Spirit.

We just do not know he truth. You believe by faith or you don’t.

You have to choose what you believe.

There are many contradictions and inaccuracies in the versions of the Bible we read today. You have to find out what the original writings meant and interpret them in the context that they were written in as well as understood in. Then you can choose what you believe based on the facts, not what some one else tells you.

By he way, his name wasn’t even Jesus. In fact, the name ‘Jesus’ never appears in the original Hebrew and Aramaic text. ‘Jesus’ was the Greek translation of his actual name, which was Jeshua.

IT'S A MIRACLE!! Mary and Moses had a baby!!!

Now if Moses and Joseph had had the baby, THAT would be a real miracle.

Sigh. Next we'll be reading that the Red Sea was turned into wine so someone could walk on it.

It was Joseph and Mary that had Jesus.

Basically, An angel came down from heaven saying that Mary was pregnant with the son of God. In the bible, there really needs to be no explanation on to how these things happened. It was a miracle.

Moses did not have Jesus. Mary simply had Jesus after agreeing with God that whatever He told her she would do.

Plus, Mary was ever virgin, don't you think that Joseph wouldn't have supposed such an action on God's woman.

You might want to read the bible again, Moses had nothing to do with the birth of Jesus. Mary was made pregnant by thespirit ofGod.

where do you get that?

to rhsaunders... Jesus was the LEGAL son of Joseph, including Him in the house of David. To say that Joseph was His biological father, is calling God a liar. Saying that the word 'virgin' is a mistranslation, creates a lot of other contradictions and also implies that God is unable to preserve His word.

The word "virgin" is a mis-translation of the original, which is more accurately translated as "maiden" or "unmarried woman". If Joseph was not the father, then Jesus was not of the House of David.

Uh...Moses? Mary was married to Joseph.

It's considered to be one of the many mysteries of the Bible. If you believe, you believe. If you don't, you can't.

Ironie, you need to look at your calendar and get your dates straighten up! Moses at that time was on business travel on the mountain negotiating the ten commandments with God; remember?
