How do I open and download an attachment and save it on my documents?

I don't know much about computers. I downloaded and attachment (or so I thought) and sent it to my "documents" file. When I tried opening the page, it sent me to word pad, and there were numbers and letters all scrambled. It didn't make sense. What can I do?

Ok i assume you know who the attachment was from, cause it could be a virus. What was the file extension? Was it .doc or .jpeg. Do you know if was a word document or a picture. If you are using yahoo mail then yes you should be able to just save to your computer and view it depending if the file is not corupted. Plus it would also do a virus scan on the file.
