I jsut saw it posted that someone thought St. Christopher was "dethroned".

Alot of people think he got de-sainted" or something. Its not true. The church simply replaced his feast day with another Saint. Ive heard this alot and i was just wondering how many people thought/think this. I hope that cleared it up.

Actually, I'm one of those people who'd heard that he'd been 'de-sainted.' So I looked it up, and it turns out you're right. The Church stripped him of his feast day and declared they had no proof of his ever existing, but he remains a saint (http://www.texnews.com/1998/religion/demote0606.html ). Thanks for correction.

As for CM's question about Mother Theresa, she was beatified on Oct. 19, 2003 by Pope John Paul II. Normally there's a 5-year waiting period before this can happen, but he waived it for her. She performed miracles during her life, and the Church recognizes this, but now, after her death, another one is needed before she can be canonized a saint. The modern Church wishes to be very sure that the people it canonizes as saints really are saints.

As a non-Catholic Christian, I don't worry too much about their "saints". However, I would be curious to know why Mother Teresa has not been "sainted" yet. If anyone's memory should be honored by a "sainthood", hers is it!
