BMI is not a good indicator of a six pack. It is also not measured in a percent. Are you a 22 BMI or 22% BF(body fat)? Whether you do ab work or not, you should be able to see them at around 8% body fat or less (assuming your a man). The women's number is somewhere around 16%, I think, but I am not totally positive on that number.

Your BMI is not a percentage, but a score of how much you weight versus your height.

To see your abs, you must get your body fat percentage (the amount of fat that composes your body) to 10% or below. You might also need to alter your diet to lose the weight around it as well.

So if you weigh 160 pounds and 22% of you is fat, you have about 34 pounds of fat. To get to 10% you are going to have to lose about 18 pounds. It is hard to lose just fat, so you'll have to also build muscle...

You are going to have to start working out by hitting the weights, watching your diet, and educating yourself on healthy eating. Try picking up some weight lifter / bodybuilder mags at Borders or buy a book. It's going to take some work to get there but with the right dedication, you can make it.

Good luck.

Firstly BMI is not the same as body fat percentage. If your body fat percentage is 22% and you want to look more fit and toned, but not ripped, I'd suggest getting it down to about 11%-17%. Obviously you need to increase your muscle mass also. HTH : )

Not sure that you can judge this by BMI. You just have to keep eating healthy and working out those ab muscles big time...IT WILL HAPPEN!

Shweet is right... you need to pay attention to your individual body fat %.
