I need songs that portray the following moods. I would prefer that the songs be either classical, opera, broadway or mainstream popular (think: The Beatles). It's to be used in the classroom, so nothing inappropriate. Also, they should be songs that most people know at least passingly well.

Any other moods you could give me would also be great. I particularly need darker moods (more along the lines of anger).

scared
angry
cheerful
calm
in love
curious
busy
happy
sad
coy
bashful

The classical selections are from "The Romantic Violin" By Joshua Bell

Here are other suggestions from others, since I don't really know too many angry/scary...

Here's more scary:

Bach - Toccata and Fugue in d minor, BWV 565
Grieg - In the Hall of the Mountain King
Brahms - Piano Quintet in g minor, Op. 25
Bartok - Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta (mvmt. 3, adagio)
Mozart - Requiem "Dies Irae"
Orff - Carmina Burana, O Fortuna
Ives - Robert Browning Overture
Brahms - Hungarian Dance No. 5 in g minor
Webern - Variations Op. 27 - Ruhig fliessend
Mussorgsky - A Night on Bald Mountain

And angry: Edward Elgar: Cello Concerto, 1st movement

"THE FIRST movement is marked Adagio-Moderato, and is one of much anger and energy. It opens dramatically and angrily, ff with a flourish on a chord, which provides the material for the introduction. The orchestra supports the cello in its opening chords and it then leads to the lyrical and poignant main theme of the movement played by the orchestra alone." (Derek Lim)

I come from a classical background, so my references are all going to be classical, which may make all of these references obscure. I hope this helps.

angry - Beethoven's 5th Symphony, not the disco version.
cheerful - Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf (Peter's theme)
calm - Beethoven's 6th Symphony, 2nd movement, I think... It's the one depicting the babbling brook, not the thunderstorm.
in love - Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, the love theme
busy - Danse Macabre, by Saint-Saens
happy - what's the difference between cheerful and happy? I guess, Beethoven's Ode to Joy in the last movement of the 9th symphony?
sad - Barber's Adagio for Strings
coy - Dance of the Reed-Flutes, from the Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky

more angry stuff:
Mars, from The Planets, by Holst
The Hut of Baba Yaga, from Pictures at an Exhibition, by Moussorgsky
Beethoven's 6th Symphony, the thunderstorm movement
Darth Vader's theme from Star Wars soundtrack, by John Williams
Beethoven's 9th Symphony, the Scherzo, I think it's the 3rd movement. (featured in A Clockwork Orange)
