Why do so many people believe that intelligent human beings who believe in natural selection, abortion, the death penalty, and who don't believe in "god" are basically witches or idiots or that they're going straight to hell? Because I am proud to be an aethiest, proud to believe in pro-choice for women (and NO i do not believe a fetus is a tumor, parasite, whatever), and I believe in the death penalty as well as the fact that if you're a close-minded dumb*ss we should be able to throw you in the ocean and watch you drown.

Because the Bible teaches theists to close their minds.

I'm a Christian, and I do not believe atheists will go to hell. I do support the death penalty, but I think it is our responsibility to work with and educate the dumb*sses you speak of. If they're still dumb, then we can ignore them. Although I think abortion is wrong, I do not believe it should be made illegal.

I suppose I didn't answer your question; really I can't. I just thought I'd share with you my beliefs and let you know that not all theists are close-minded, just as not all atheists are open-minded.

Wow, you must live in a very oppressive community or have very judgmental friends.

It's too bad that you have had such negative experiences with religious people, but we're not all that way. I think that you should be free to believe whatever you want to and I don't think you are a witch or an idiot.

Your solution to the problem of closed-minded people brings to mind a Monty Python bit. Are you suggesting sinking would be a test to determine closed-mindedness?

I think the reason is because many people have not had the good fortune to be exposed to the outside world, but instead were fed on all of the stuff that comes from there very small and small minded community around them.

As such, I feel very sorry for them, and compassionate toward them, because many are brain washed since they were children. And they don't even know it.

We are on a higher level than that, so compassion is the answer. At least in our hearts. That may turn things around.

We are the ones who already have the better position. We're up the mountain, looking down on things around us, we can afford to be compassionate.

That will help preserve our good Karma.

Your not close minded. You have formed your own opinons, and it doesnt make you ignorant because you have. Its only ignorance if you dont research them out.

On the same side, because I am a Believer, a pro-lifer, support the death penalty, people tend to say I am close minded, and a follower, all the while, I know I have researched my opinion, and am comfortable supporting it.

Knowing that I am just opposite of you, would you be as accepting? If the answer is no, then you know why people come to the conclusions they do.

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. I've noticed thumbs down hitting posts like 'Creationism or Evolution' within SECONDS. I doubt half the people read the material.

I'm atheist. And you feel the need to inform me that me, my family, and all my loved ones are going to suffer for eternity.... why?

I used to be a Catholic. These close-minded jerks are the reason I couldn't believe in such a 'god' anymore. He sure did make a poor decision when he picked the 'chosen people'. What a load.

Well, I agreed totally until the throwing in the ocean. I don't like the religious fanatics either, There is no hell. I do believe in God however. There are many roads to God. He doesn't care which road, or no road we take.

You wanting to throw them in the ocean is just as bad and wrong as them telling anyone they are going to hell.

It's actually fascinating to know how different religion works but I guess the group of close-minded people can't accept anything that's opposed to their religion teachings.

God is the only judge..and if you are an aethiest, don't worry about hell, God, or anything like that..when this life is over and you stand before God..you can just tell Him that He's not real, and you don't believe in any of it. K?!

I don't know why you are so angry, except maybe because you don't have Christ in your life. If you're going to be proud to be an atheist, at least be proud enough to learn how to spell atheist.

Being open-minded is great, but you don't want your mind so open your brains fall out. Besides, atheism is an example of closed mindedness. You are saying there is not a chance there is a God, like you have all knowledge.
