You don't say if your cat is long or short hair. However, your cat probably has hair balls in his stomach. Cats don't digest hair balls and have to throw them up. There are supplements for hair balls that help cats pass fur through their digestive tracts. Also, most commercial cat food is not high quality. Innova or Natural Balance Cat Food is one of the best on the market. Cats need meat and most commercial food has unnatural ingredients such as, corn, and by-products with a high percentage of carbos which cats don't need. These two cat foods do not contain any by-products. Your cat will thank you for it and live a longer, healthier life.

Cats sometimes eat too quickly and it causes them to regurgitate. Also, if have switched brands of food abruptly, that may cause it.
If it happens on a regular basis, take the kitty to the vet for a well kitty check up.

I think cats have sensitive stomachs. Our cat regurgitates on a regular basis.....especially if we change brands of food without mixing the old and new stuff together for a few days. What has helped - seriously - is giving her that hairball medicine on a more regular basis....she throws-up a lot less if we are religious about it. Good luck!

He is eating too much and too fast. I had a cat always throw up with dry food (purina) but not with the smaller pellets (iams, science diet). Give him some wheatgrass which you can buy at a pet store. Also Petromalt and they now have them in treats. If your cat seems ok, keep changing his food till it stops. If not, please take him to a vet to make sure it's not something more serious.

all of my cats have done this , but If i give my cat Cat Nip two or three times a week it helps a lot. They have fun and it also provides fiber to help get rid of hairballs and constipation. You also can use the products specifically for hair balls but the cats don't have as much fun.... and it can cause loose stool if used to much.

you never mentioned either brand...
ALL foods sold in grocery stores and Wal Marts etc.. are loaded with fillers and high in fat and result in more vomitting.. try switching to a good food sold in a pet supply store (read the lable to make sure its good.. some such as SCIENCE DIET and EUKANUBA and ROYAL CANIN - are CRAP!!!!)
good food also means the cat eats less

This is pretty normal behaviour for cats. Unless he shows some other signs of illness I wouldn't worry too much. However if you are concerned speak to your vet just to be sure.

You may need to give him something for furballs/hairballs. For now, try a little butter or oleo; about 1/2 tablespoon.
The furball med can be found here:

he may have stomach issues, try something for sensitive digestive systems and see if that helps.. if it's dry that is vomited, you may have to switch to canned food.
