Firefox doesn't support Activex controls, which windows update requires. Is there any way to get windows updates WITHOUT running IE?

Install a Firefox extension IE Tab - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419/

It renders pages using the IE rendering engine, and tricks the microsoft update page into thinking that Firefox is Internet Explorer

you can't. you need to use internet explorer.

dont listen to no n . updates are needed as they patch holes and vulnerabilities that could leave your computer open to attacks or when you install ill gotten software, trojans and viruses could take advantage of your non fixed oeprating system.

would you want someone use your computer, hog your bandwidth and resources and flood it with viruses? I didn't think so.

I used firefox extensively. and update using ie.

THIS IS WHAT I DO, IVE GOT NETZERO AS MY ISP AND WITH THEM YOU HAVE TO USE THEIR HOME PAGE. NOT A PROBLEM! WHEN I LOG ON IT'S WITH MY IE7, THAT GETS MINIMIZED OR XED OUT, USUALLY THE FORMER. I ALREADY HAVE FIREFOX UP, BUT MINIMIZED, AND GO TO WORK FROM THAT POINT. WHEN I HAVE TO CHECK FOR UP DATES AND THERE ARE SOME, I'LL USE IE7 FOR THAT. THATS ABOUT THE ONLY TIME BECAUSE I HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS AND IT DECIDEDLY SLOWER. IE6 WAS A MUCH BETTER VERSION. HOPE THIS HELPS, IT WORKS FOR ME.

GOD BLESS
