Chivas Regal is always nice, Johnny Walker, Glenlivet (personal favorite) You might also consider an Irish Whiskey like Jameson or Tullamoore Dew.... And go for something that has been aged and mellowed for at least 18 years in oak barrels, this will give a rich mellow flavor and allow the true character of the whiskey to shine. I also want to point out that you don't need to spend the entire $100 on just the bottle.... All of the Whiskey's I've listed should not be over $60/fifth.... leaving some extra cash left over for a cigar, or cool rocks glasses or for yourself. Hope this helps, and Merry Christmas

Knob Creek, no questions asked, no qualifiers needed. Not terribly expensive here, around $30-$32 a fifth, but by far the best I've had. Some of the higher priced bourbons are a bit strong with the rye, which I do not care for. Knob is smooth. Needs nothing but the rocks. Basil Hayden and Booker's are good, but for the extra $20 over Knob, I can get a liter and still have $$ leftover. If it helps, I used to purchase Crown exclusively, but I won't touch it since I found out what the good stuff tastes like. Woodford Reserve is another good choice in the same price range. Definitely no need to blow $100. Bourbons are like wines here...if you're not experienced with the pricey "good" stuff, you'll never know the difference between a $100 bottle and a $40 bottle.

Bourbon: Jack Daniels, for Scotch, any expensive single malt. This for starters. The large stores have knowledgeable clerks who can advise, but small stores probably do not.
However, I'm certainly no expert on store-bought booze. What I made in the past was sooooo much better than what you buy today. I gave that up, though. Too much trouble to make.

I'd go for Lord Calvert. It's canadian bourbon (like Crown) but it's a little easier on the budget. My hubby and I were strict CR drinkers until we found the Lord Calvert. I honestly cannot tell much difference.
Good luck with all the choices out there!!!

JOHNNY WALKER BLACK LABEL. nice scotch whiskey
JOHNNY Walker Blue one of the best and most expencive scothc whiskeys.
THeres a scotch by the name of white horse but hard to find.
Canadian Club a good one but it too may be hard to find. Glenlivet is alos a good one.
my father is a partner in a five star restaurant but go to the experts at a " fine " liqour store or go online to look for rare blends.

I'll toss in my two-cents worth for the Irish whiskey-- Jamesons is good and Old Bushmills is good too. Irish whiskey is, in my opinion, the finest to be had-- smooth

Good whiskey? Look at Irish Whiskeys, they can help you out at your local liquor store with the selection.

get him to talking about it. he'll tell you (if you want it to be a surprise, just act like its casual conversation about a topic you know he is interested in)...I would think southern comfort or jack daniels or even old grandad...but if crown royal is what he likes best stick with that...
