There are five houses in five different colors starting from left to right. In each house lives a person of a different nationality. These owners all drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigarette and keep a certain type of pet. No two owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand or drink the same beverage. At least give it a try for an hour or so before looking up the answer! It is completely maddening but fun. I set up a grid and tried the process of elimination, but it just gets more and more twisted. Anyone who can at least describe their efforts wins Best Answer (because it is said that only 2% of the population can actually solve this).
BTW - someone owns the goldfish. It isn't the Brit or the Swede, obviously, the first two hints rule them out.

Ok, if you must know the answer and the steps to solve, here is a link (similar question, not worded exactly the same way):

Whatever you do, don't give the answer: I haven't gone to the link, and I'm working on the problem right now. Hold tight.
EDIT: All right! I was hoping that would be a bit harder. I just drew up a simp grid and a line of five houses. I filled in all of the info. on the grid and in different places on the houses. The extra hints I represented with extra rows on the grids with lines between them, or arrows between words for house placements. Then you just begin a complicated process of elimination. I swear I didn't use your link.
The German has the pet goldfish! He also drinks coffee, smokes Rothams, and lives in a green house! He is neighbors with the Brit and the Swede. Trust me, that was not the world's hardest riddle.
Got any more? Email me.

WooHoo!! I think I've got it! It took about 45 minutes to solve and I DIDN'T use the internet. First the answer: The German owns the goldfish. Heres how I got my answer:
First, I set up a grid. I made a five by five grid. I input the information from the clues into the grid (The norwegian in the first house, The middle house drinks milk, The second house is blue since the norwegian lives next to the blue house) Since it stated the second house is blue and the middle one is red. (the brit lives in the red house, another given to add to the grid) The 4th and 5th house are in order Green and White since it states the Green House is to the left of the White. (The owner of the green house drinks coffee.. another given) This means the only remaining house (the first one) must be yellow. The clues also state the owner of the yellow house smokes dunhill so i added that to my grid. The person with horses lives next to the person who smokes dunhill, so the blue house must in turn have horses. These are all the givens from the clues and the rest I did through trial and error. I tried putting random info in the grid where I guessed it could go, and if it didn't work I tried another spot. My end results:
First house: Yellow, the owner is Norwegian, He drinks water, owns cats, and smokes Dunhill.
Second House: Blue, the owner is Danish, He drinks tea, owns horses, and smokes Marlboro.
Third House: Red, the owner is British, He drinks Milk, owns birds, and smokes Pall Mall.
Fourth House: Green, the owner is German, He drinks coffee, owns a GOLDFISH, and smokes rothmans.
Fifth House: White, the owner is Swedish, He drinks Beer, owns dogs, and smokes Winfield.

I can't put all my work in here because it took me an hour to solve but I tried to narrow it down by making a list of all the related items and then filled in the rest through process of elimination. The key to solving it is the cigerettes. The last two spaces left open for pets were for the german and the brit and one space left open for pall malls. The german smokes rothman and the person who smokes pall malls has a bird. So, it can only be the german in the green house who smokes rothmans and drinks coffee who owns the goldfish. My brain hurts now.

the FIRST house is YELLOW, occupied by a NORWEGIAN, with CATS, while drinking WATER and smoking DUNHILLS.
the SECOND house is BLUE, occupied by a DANE, with HORSES, while drinking TEA and smoking MARLBOROS.
the THIRD house is RED, occupied by a BRIT, with BIRDS, while drinking MILK and smoking PALL MALLS.
the answer you are looking for is the FOURTH house, which is GREEN, occupied by a GERMAN, who has a GOLDFISH, who drinks COFFEE and smokes ROTHMANS.....
and then there is the FIFTH house that is WHITE, occupied by a
SWEDE, who has a DOG, and drinks BEER and smokes WNFIELDS.
it took me a lil bit to figure it all out, and i hope this is what you are looking for... i put it all into a graph and did process of elimination and all that bull.... i used to love doing these puzzles!!!
