It shouldn't if the dentist numbs you with enough Novocaine, if you feel anything while he is drilling you should make him stop and give you some more, the only thing you should feel is maybe a little bit of pressure but that doesn't hurt. But you should get the cavity fixed before it gets worse and then you'll need a root canal and those aren't very fun.

If it is a very mild cavity (not deep), a dentist can sometimes drill it without any pain at all. If it's deep, the dentist will numb that area so you can't feel the drilling at all. Either way, it doesn't hurt. If he numbs you, you might feel the needle a little bit, but it's not bad.

It would hurt like hell if the dentist didn't use any anesthetic like novocaine, but it is common practice to use a needle to inject an anesthetic to the mandibular or maxillary nerve, depending on which tooth or teeth needed to be drilled. It doesn't hurt at all after the shot, and the shot hurts way less than a scrape on the knee. The whole process of sitting in a dentist's chair and waiting for him to finish is kind of a ***** though.

Not if the Dentist uses local anesthetic first, admininistered in the form of an injection which does not hurt at all, just a small pinch.

If you are worried tell the dentist this and he/she will make sure the experience is as painless as possible.

No, because the dentist will give you novocaine to numb the area before any drilling is done. Just try to relax and it will be over before you know it.

they give you a shot of Novocaine, which just pinches, so you don't really feel a thing.

it will certainly be less painful than having your teeth rot out! trust me!
