Well this depends on many things. When was the police report filed? If it was a few days ago, it takes about a week to process (the officer who initially took the report has to finish the face page, narrative, witness/suspect page, etc. then the supervisor must approve the contents, then the data is entered into a database.) This whole process can take longer than a week depending on the severity of the crime. And if the report needs to go to court or the District Attorney, that means the report is active and cannot be released to anyone. Does your friend have to go to court about this incident? If he does, he will likely get a copy of the report in court. Hope this answers your question.

he is mis informed, your friend, if their was a police report filed it is a public record...and can be obtaind by anyone... the media does it to celebs all the time, if their was not a police report filed, then their is no police reort to obtain. he as the complantant would file the report with police, if they actually got off their fatt asses and filed the report. or if he is a defendant then lets hope their was no report filed, jurys and judges alike will almost always side with and believe the po po. 5/0 the filth, the pigs, the currupt dirty sobs... you get the picture, any doubts hire a lawyer. a man that represents himself in a court of law has a fool for an attorney, and is a jack *** of a client... you can either go to the police and for a nominal fee pay for the report, or if your in court their should be a case # respectfully request of the judge that you want to supena any and all reports filed by police reguarding your case # hope this helps...

Here in California, the officer told me that I had to be named specifically as a victim in order to obtain a copy of the report. It was filed, at my request, by a careless attorney who fessed up to me that he had lost all my paperwork and supposedly gotten a call from a young man who left a message saying he'd return it, so the idiot lawyer waited a few days for this to happen so as to CYA, before he told me.I had him go back and amend the report so that I was specifically named, my own CYA.
He was required to file it as an unreturned property report, and I requested a copy for my own files in case the info. is ever used (and traceable) in theft of my identity.
'If so, I will be able to demonstrate that the lawyer bears some responsibility for not immediately informing me so that I could take appropriate protective action ASAP.
Yes, I know, chances are slim, when battling a lawyer, but I like to be prepared, as the credit that may be taken out in my name-their attorneys will want to see that a police report was filed, they give you less grief that way.

Usually you can get a police report from the appropriate department in question. If you can't for some reason, you may need to consult an attorney.

If you've been the victim of a crime, you have the right to a copy of the police report...as long as one has been filed. Your friend will have to go to the police department and request one. They will more than likely charge him for it, though.

They may charge a small fee. They should be able to get a copy of it. If it is someone else's that may be the problem. A little vague about legal problems. Has his attorney tried to have the report subpeonad?

Bullshit. He's not telling you the truth. If he calls and demands a report or walks in to the local PD and files a 'counter' report, they have an obligation to accept it no matter how frivilous.
