Make sure you have plenty of medical insurance 'And I'm not kidding".
Being a dog walker is a 'huge' task because you are fully responsible for the wellbeing of the dogs you walk.
Another thing you should consider, you are dealing with animals
you really don't know, therefore you don't know if you can trust
them, especially if you consider walking some dogs together,
in that case you're asking for trouble.
Dogs need to be socialized with other dogs for some time before
you can say they get along, and even dogs who do know each other, will sometimes get into a vicious fight, but thats just dogs..
I mentioned insurance for one 'BIG' reason.
I have a friend who lives in New York who was a Dog Walker, and made really good money too. One day while he was walking his usual 5 dogs, they were all attacked by another stray dog.
In the terrible commotion my friend got bit 3 times, and needed
47 stitches in his legs and right hand.
Good thing he had insurance, the hospital bill was nearly $2000.
Three of the dog owners also had vet bills to pay, as the dogs all
started fighting one another. It took a smart cafe owner who came running out of his cafe with a bucket full of ice water, and
through it over all of them. It did the trick and broke up the fight.
But Alan no longer walks dogs, 'too risky' he says.

I have never been a "dog walker", but I have walked some people that I know's dogs. There are several things you must consider before you accept this responsibility.
1) You must have a liking for dogs.
2) You must be able to care for the dogs.
3) You must be able to accept the responsibility.
4) Do not walk more dogs than you can handle.
5) If need be, show the dogs that you are the boss.
6) In doing so, do not hurt or harm the dogs.
7) You must know a lot of information about the dogs and how to care for each one of them.
8) You must also accept the responsibility to clean up after the dogs.
I would like to be a dog walker for not only the money, but also because I love dogs. Also, you should also like to walk a lot and should be in some sort of good physical shape. I hope the information that I gave you is useful and that you have a successful career in dog walking until you get a bettter job. Good Luck

If you want to be a dog walker this is what you will have to do:
1. Make flyers or put ads out to let people know this is what you do;
2. Best done in a neighborhood so you don't burn a lot of gas driving around. Dog walkers don't make a lot of money;
3. Walk 4-6 dogs at once;
4. Untangle leashes constantly;
5. Pick up after all the dogs (carry a lot of poop bags with you);
6. Let the dogs know you are the "Alpha" dog;
7. Know how to safely break up any dog fights;
8. Know first aid in case of a dog fight;
9. Have strong arms and a strong back;
10. MUST LOVE DOGS!

I've walked more than my share as a rescue volunteer. However, there is a need for this service. You would need to be a dog person and comfortable with different types dogs.
Many of our elderly and disabled have pets and need assistance with caring for them, taking to vet, exercising, etc. You might check with a senior center in your area about posting a add. Local vet might know of folks needing this service.
And you might just brighten someone's day while helping with their pet!
