Actually, it's not quite true anyway.
When you don't eat, your body instinctively begins conserving energy more - your metabolism shifts. So even though you might burn 3000 calories on a normal day when you eat normally, when you starve yourself you might only burn 800 or less.
That's one reason starvation diets don't work. And what's worse if you're trying to lose weight, is your body stays at the "efficiency" mode for a while after you start eating again, because it wants to restore the fat reserves it burned when you were starving.

Actualy when you dont eat, you gain more weight because your body starts to store fat. The reason why anorexic people lose weight is because they totally cross the line and because they have this psychological problem and obsession it allows them to literally starve themselves. The body turns first on the muscles, and then the fat. They then get wasted away to nothing because when there is no more fat or muscles to take nutrients from then the body starts attacking the organs for it. Dieting does not work when you want to lose weight, the majority of people, gain the weight back which they lost, and gain even more on top of that!

I've just been studying Nutrition in class and though not eating will make you lose weight, you will also lose a lot of your energy. As your body burns fat and nutrients you've stored up, it will need to be replenished and if you're not eating healthy meals, your systems will start to malfunction. So it's better to eat, but eat healthy food and in moderation.

Yes, without eating anything your body will begin eating your muscle mass and you will lose weight. When you start eating again, your body will store it as fat because you have been starving and you will end up with more fat then you started with.

anorexia/fasting is a sure way to loose weight lol buuuut then u kill your immune system, ur body goes into a catabolic state burning muscle fibers for energy instead of fat or injested calories, kills your metabolism, promotes cortisol production (fat storing hormone) but then effects your mental state as well
