I have trouble with a neighbor in a rural community -he hates my husband and I for many reasons, all of them stupid, (we leave a porch light on at night, wash the car, had the driveway paved, pick up others garbage when the garbage men scatter it, etc) we are Jewish and Greek Orthodox-and afraid to show it. What would you do? Neighbor is loud and abusive and cops cant do anything for all our other problems with him, and he has already screamed at us that we should act like we live in a trailer and not a mansion. We believe in bettering our lives and we are quite proud of what we can accomplish in most things we set our minds to, but this guy is so close to the edge with us now, we are afraid to show how we celebrate anything. He is a very unhappy man, he has no job, he has been trying to sell his house and land for 3 years and hardly anyone has come by, and we cant move yet, we have been here 3 months. We need to finish some remodeling before we could even rent to someone else.

Just to clarify-we tried to talk to him several times, this man is known to the people at Town Hall to be violent and unstable, he is only 46, has a girlfriend and 13 yr old son. My neighbors are his best friends. Didnt know this when I moved here...

Do everything that Softspot suggests, but remember that the Lord helps those who help themselves. A new Doberman, Rottweiler or German Shepherd pup would be a smart idea. Someone to keep an eye on the place when you both are at work or when your husband is away and you are home alone.

Have you tried being friendly to him? Take him a batch of homemade brownies or something. He may just be a lonely old man, which could make him act mean. Be nice to him in spite of him being nasty to you. I don't know if it would help or not, but I'd at least try it. What does he celebrate this time of the year?....anything? How about the rest ot your neighbors? Does anybody celebrate with decorations or anything?

I would have to ask you, did you ever invite him over or try to talk with him in anyway???

Sometimes people, like your neighbor, just need a friend and they do not know how to ask.

He is having a rough go of it in his life and is taking the anger out one you because you are there.

It seems that your neighbor is frustrated with his life and is jealous of yours. Try to talk to him in a non-confrontational fashion maybe invite him over to a celebration and be his friend.

Show him that you care. Sometimes being nice to somone is what they need.

Sorry to hear about your neighbor. Some things are out of our hands.

Pray the blessing over your home, lives and each other, as you would at Sabbath.....and move on with life. Trust in the L-rd!

Please let me know if you would like me to pray as well.

Blessings
David

All I can think of is pray for your enemies. Or pray that the right people will come looking at his house, or offer him a job. Or try the Mormon missionaries, maybe he needs help fixing up his place to sell it, and they do have a service assignment every week.

I would say celebrate but don't advertise.

You are not denying the living God when you celebrate Him.

...and please stay away from your neighbor...there's no sense in stirring up trouble.

I wish you the best during this Holiday Season. :o)

Stand up for what you believe in and trust GOD to protect you. I will pray for you and for your neighbor.
