I am communicating with a Russian lady and would like to know if anyone has and advice on the best way to get her to The U.S. I have heard many horror stories about American men being scamed and would appreciate any information on this subject. I am not sending money or personal information so this is not what I need to know. What I need to know is about a visa and passports for her. Any web sites that anyone knows of on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Last time I checked, a Russian passport costs less than $100 USD, but I would be surprised if she did not already have an international passport.

As to a visa, YOU have to apply for a visa to bring her here. You apply in the USA, to the Department of Homeland Security. After they give you approval to apply for a visa to bring her here, they will set up an appointment at the US Embassy in Moscow. She will then have to fill out a visa application and take it there.

You can apply for either a fiance' visa, or a spouse visa (if you marry her there, of course).

In either case, you will have to

a) Prove to the embassy that you have met in person at least once in the last 2 years, and that you have a "real" relationship. That usually means phone bills, pictures together, and any other documentation that shows it is not a scam to get her a green card. Unfortunately, there is no list of "bring this and this to prove your relationship". It is totally up to the officer at the embassy, and you can NOT appeal their decision.

b) Documents from the local police of EVERY Russian jurisdiction she has lived in, showing her being free of any criminal charges for her entire life. These must be translated to English, and certified by a certified translator.

c) Documents showing immunizations against 5 or 6 different thigns, and freedom from HIV/AIDS. This also must be translated and certified in English.
