My son is there. This is his 4th trip to Iraq and Afghanistan is up to three times now. My son said magazines He has a Mustang that's been in one of the car mags and so he keeps up with the latest and greatest while over there and saving money. Pics are always safe. What was he into over here? Does he move around alot? Heavy stuff is hard in a backpack. Does he have a laptop over there? Internet connection is wireless so unless he's in a nice facility, forget it. We sent my son a lot of gag gifts. The ones he could share (or pull) with others. It breaks up the monotony. Try not to get too sappy, (easier for sisters instead of moms) because you don't want to make him to sad for home during the holidays, just make him a part. Send him your wish list. Things that are easily obtainable for him and sent to you.Tell him to send his favorite MRE and let him know you'll share it on Christmas Day. AND DO IT!!!! Sometimes it's not just what they get, but how they can still feel like part of here.
All the best and my prayers are with you all.

More movies? I know that when my husband was there he loved to get movies. I'd hit yard sales and buy cheap DVDs. They didn't have to be the latest and greatest titles. He'd have some down time and get really bored so he'd sit and watch anything. Many of the movies I sent from yard sales he would watch and then pass on to someone else. I also bought him a whole stack of movies from an online store. They were old 80s titles and were $5 a movie. He loved those!!
It sounds like your brother already has what he needs. Maybe just send a bigger care package with a few more things than usual. Send Christmas themed snacks and goodies. My husband says the best thing he got while there was food and movies.

Your smiling face. This sounds like "what to get the guy that has everything". Maybe your brother doesnt care about materialistic things during this time of year. You and your family already send him care packages. Maybe if he has a web cam you and your family can talk to him on Christmas day. Just knowing that you guys are there to back him up at any cost, and that includes sacrificing your family being with him, is probably the greatest gift ever. Just send him homemade cards. No games or PSP or digital cameras..... just you and your families smiling faces supporting him all the way back home. God bless your brother and the others in the service. Merry Christmas.

How about some pictures of friends and family. Some extra clothes to stay warm. His favorite book or magazine. Something that will remind him of home but won't make him seriously home sick. Get your video camera and tape the family saying hi. Hope this helps.
