You can use specialized toddler toothpaste, such as Little Bear toothpaste made by Oragel. It is safe for toddlers to swallow in the small amounts you need to use. You shouldn't use adult toothpastes for your child... they can contain too much flouride in them, and make your child sick.

You definitely want to train her out of this habit, but I don't think there will be any harm from it.

Toothpaste is made of ingredients that are safe for human consumption. What she is brushing off her teeth is probably not harmful either, though it may seem a little bit gross.

Keep on working with her. She isn't the first person to have swallowed toothpaste.

Oral-B makes training toothpaste for toddlers. It is safe to swallow. Also, at that young of an age, they should not be using fluoride! It can be very dangerous for them.

Check with your child's doctor and they can explain in detail why not to use fluoride on a toddler.

It can be dangerous in large amounts. To be safe, I'd switch to a toddler toothpaste (flouride free) until she understands to spit it out. My son is 15 months and loooooooves the fruity flavors that they come in!

well thats why they say only a pea sized amount on children.. You can find some of those mild childrens toothpaste that isnt so harsh if they do swallow..
just make a game out of it.. You brush along side your baby and you spit, he/she will spit.. laugh about it.. Then you'll probably have a kid who does nothing but spit to get a laugh out of you... looooooooooooool

a little bit is ok and won't hurt them, but it can be poisonous in large quantities. Just enough to cover the toothbrush with should be fine.
