They haven't started the draft but probably will in about 6 months.

To answer your question, it would take world war 3 for them to resort to such an action. I am currently registered, and it's not a big deal. I am thinking about volunteering one day, when I've finished my degree and can be an officer.
Now, I don't mean to preach, but your question reflects just the type of selfishness and immaturity (not that I'm the most mature person in the world) that I STRONGLY disagree with. I mean, you're free to believe whatever you want, but to blatantly say that you'll just sit back and let some man put HIS life on the line while you and your girlfriends enjoy your "cozy homes" during a major crisis is just ignorant and extremely selfish. Ever consider the fact that in such drastic situations (I don't mean what's happening in Iraq; I mean more like if World War 2 broke out now and not in 1939), you wouldn't have your cozy home? In World War 2, every American woman stepped up and did her part, a few in the military, and thousands working endlessly to produce the food and the bullets that the soldiers needed. Heck, in Russia, if it weren't for the thousands of female soldiers, including some snipers and pilots decorated repeated for bravery in combat, Germany might very well have won the war, it was that close.
What I am saying is, please don't be ignorant of your country's needs. We all want cozy homes; if something big enough to require a draft were to break out, we'd ALL have to step up and defend them.
Or, to better put it, in the immortal words of my roommate my freshman year of college, "Pfft. Women. For 95% of them, it's all "TOTALLY EQUALITY NOW!!" until either 1. the draft comes back, or 2. the Titanic starts sinking. Then they shut up."

No. They didn't use the selective service. It's still in existence but hasn't been activated since Vietnam. There won't be a draft because not only is there no need for a draft, the military today is so high tech, it takes two years of training just to become capable of using the weapons. The days of several months of training to shoot a rifle and march are long gone. I'm 25 and if the draft were re-instated, I'd be among the first to have my number pulled.

Whoa!! You must be the ONLY person in the USA that beleives ("I'm pretty sure they still use it") we use the SSA...aka DRAFT..to get men to go to war. Why? Are you ignorant...naive...uninormed about the war/military or just live in your own world of make believe? I don't mean to insult you but I can't imagine with all the news, TV programs and discusions in the media regrading the All Voluantary Army how you came to the conclusion men were being drafted.
OK... THERE IS NO DRAFT! PERIOD! Got it? Good!
Bet your boy friend appreciates that you kick him out to go fight a war so you could stay in your cozy home. Typical mentality of people who want others to everything requiring any effort. How sad, pathetic and disgusting that so many brave men and women have fought and died to allow you the freedom to be cozy. Tell me. Is their anything you fight for even if there was a high possibity that you might die in the effort? To save your parents...a child or family member..anyone? How about to save your own life? No...you would just sit their in your cozy home and expect some brave person to come save your A$$ at the expsense to their safety. Imagine the look on your face when you finally realize no one is coming to your rescue.
I bet you are between the ages of 18 to 26, right? Guess what Demoratic Congressman Rangle (MI) announced that he is again going to introduced legislation to the Congress to start the draft requiring ALL men and WOMEN 18-26 to register for the Selective Service and be eligible to be drafted. How cozy to you feel right now??
I personally don't think we need the draft...now anyway. But if they could draft just one person and asked me to decide...who do you think would be my 1st and only choice?

No and No they do not still use it.. men after they graduate high school still have to fill out a draft card however they will only use a draft if there is a catastrophe or something... look into the Vietnam War and you will see why.. that was the last time it was used..

They have us guys sign up for selective service, but dont pull a draft. In other words, if they need us, which the promise they wont, they will force us to go fight. Im not saying there is anything wrong with being in the army, but selective service is only necessary when you dont have enough troops, and with the declining popularity of mr. bush and his administration, who knows how many troops we'll have left. If they start a draft im going to canada or mexico. Lets get our troops home people.
