Some religious wackos want to debate where life begins. Science is perfectly clear about this...living cells are life. Living homo-sapien cells, from zygote on, are human life.

Does this bear on the legal question? Well, what else should bear on the legal question! If we bring anything else to bear...is it not religious babble!

"its not a life cause Im sure its not conscious!". Suppose its not, SO WHAT! The cells are dividing, theres just not as many cells accumulated as you arbitraliy require to declare it, according to you leftist religion, a frickin "life"!

God probably doesnt exist, therefore, to the best of our knoweldge, humans are the highest life form in the universe. In fact, the more humans we educated within civilized free countries, the more we extend this base of intelligence...or essentially be the next best thing to "God".

Life is irrelevant. Consciousness is relevant. The arguement isn't that it's not life because it's not consciousness, it's that it IS alive, in the same way that a plant is, or that bacteria are, or at the later levels of development, the way that veal is. Of course, if you're a vegatarian, I can understand why you'd be pro-life.

We don't VALUE life. Valuing life is absurd. If you value life, you can't even eat PLANTS. You have to subsist entirely on inorganic compounds. Life is just a series of chemical processes: what's really significant is the development of the mind, the intellect, of consciousness. THAT'S why I brought up consciousness before.

Statistics are easy to get and manipulate which means they really don't say much if we don't know from where they came. (also depends on where you are)

I can't say I agree with either one side or the other entirely. I believe life begins before birth but I would not deny an abortion in every circumstance either.

It will never be illegal again and that is a fact. For the person who said--where are the pro-life people after the baby is born--they are involved in charities that help new and poor mothers cope with life, the new baby, finding clothes and food and shelter and assisting them with all of their needs. (you just have to ask) What I have not seen is a pro-choice organization set up to help those women who have had abortions but are suffering a great deal afterword with their feelings--guilt, regret, depression PASS symptoms (which many pro-abortion people deny exists--I KNOW it exists)

If hundreds of thousands of women will die from trying to give themselves an abortion. (because the can't care for a kid) Then perhaps they should not have had sex, there is only one fail proof method of ensuring there is no pregnancy.

In Canada there is no law restricting abortion--when it can be preformed. It is available until around the end of the 23rd week. (in Ontario I know this for a fact) Although it is harder to find after 22 weeks. (most clinics stop at 20-22 weeks)

Our society doesn't respect human life enough. Before or after birth. It's really too bad.

Well we Could err on the side of pro-life but think about this.I think most of us can agree that it's not a question of where but of when life begins. However, if all of us folks who don't or didn't want kids get pregnant and have all those babies we will be stacked up like cordwood in a few hundred years. Also, cancer cells are living homo sapien cells, should we call them life and mandate that they be given a chance to live also? A 12-15 week old fetus is no more capable of living outside the womb than any other growths that humans can and do produce. In my humble opiniion if it isn't viable outside of it's mother's body how can we really call it life? I myself subscribe to the ZPG (zero population growth) theory.
With all the humans who are on the planet now who will grow up and produce progeny coupled with the weather changes happening because of global warming - oops forgot GW doesn't believe in that does he? How can we guarantee that what is now our grain belt will be capable of producing enough food to keep the cordwood sorry, people from starving to death, which I've read is a really awful way to die. And, if we are the highest form of life in the universe God/Goddess help us.

I can't agree with a movement, Pro-life, that has such a lousy track record of helping women AFTER they have had they babies they say they care so much about.

52% of all abortions occur before the 9th week of pregnancy, the embryo does not even have a functioning heart until after the first trimester, that's 12 weeks.

Only 11% of abortions take place after the first trimester; 6% happen between the 13th & 15th week, 4% happen between the 16th & 20th week, and 1% of all abortions (16,450/yr.) happen after the 20th week of pregnancy.

I would prefer that a woman have an abortion than bring into the world a child they don't really want, out of fear of their parents, because their husband just has to have that one more, they are ashamed to seek help, or they are strung out on drugs. There are plenty of children in the world right now that would love to have a family and don't.

Oh and for the life belongs to "God" crowd, if life is so sacred why do we send people to kill other people when we are not threatened?

Interesting Artimis,
A quick internet search turned up a host of Pro-Choice organizations that provide a full range of unbias womens care, including post pregnacy.

And as many women will tell you, not having sex to prevent getting pregnant is not always an option.

I'm not sure what your point is, but I do agree with what I think is your pro-life position.

Most religious people I know, including myself, are pro-life. We believe, as you apparently do, that life has begun when there are living cells.

Most abortions are performed after the embryo has developed a beating heart and most of its organs. These humans have moved far beyond the stage of being zygotes.

There may be some people who allege that they are religious who argue in favor of abortion. I can't see how they can possibly make such a connection.

I agree with much of what you are saying, but I believe God would suggest we be pro-life, since pro-choice appears to be going against God's will.

I believe life begins at conception. Not only that, but I believe that life belongs to God and if He is creating it, who are we to kill and dispose of it?

Abortion, except in cases of rape or to save the life of the mother, is a selfish and hideous crime against nature. It presents a situation where people think they are mature enough to have sex for pleasure, but not mature enough to accept the risks, responsibilities, and consequences. It presents a case where a man and woman (or boy and girl) create offspring and then attack and kill it while it's totally helpless.

A woman's argument that "it's my body - it's my decision" is a cop-out. If a woman demands rights for her body, then the baby should have the same rights for ITS body and I assume all babies would choose life over being cut up or sucked out or killed with chemicals - no matter what stage of life.

You would think that with something as precious as a life, they would do all they could to make sure it is protected.

On that topic I do agree, but as far as the existence of God goes- it has been PROVEN to me many times. Try some day to give Him a chance to show you; you may be surprised :)

Abortions have been happening since the beginning of time and if they are made illegal again, they will still happen, just put back in the alleys with a rusty knife on a folding table. Lots of women will die horrible deaths. Lets at least keep them safe. If an abortion is not for you, then don't have one, but don't sentence me to a dirty coat hanger. If you still insist, then be prepared to pay a LOT more taxes to pay for orphanages and medical care for all the abused and tortured children who were forced to be born to mothers who did not want them. Oh, I forgot, you are going to adopt them all....right?

I believe all life begins at conception no matter the mammal. And one of the great gifts God gave us is the freedom to choose. Sadly we use it against his gift of giving us a child. I don't believe in abortion for myself but I won't take away another womans choice. Plus she has to live with it.

"Science is perfectly clear about this...living cells are life"

Not human life. In the first Trimester the cells cannot respond to environmental stimuli. Therefore, they are not alive...
