Most Christians are not demanding that The Bible be taught in school. What we do want is the right to express our religion. Children should be allowed to pray in school, whether in groups or separately before eating their lunch. There was a girl suspended just because she was reading to herself from the Bible. She wasn't preaching. What is wrong with that? And if there is another possible explanation as to the beginning of life, let it be known until the day comes when EVERYONE agrees there is no other option. That is education. That is freedom of religion. That is America.

( Must I always stand up for the Christians?..sigh = Z..)
Well the thing is..well at least in MY school that almost all the types of religion are taught ..BUT the Christian religion..It's category in my school is " Myth" then they ( the teachers) go on to say that "myth" is just a word used by literature professionals to mean " a traditional story of unknown authorship which explains some phenomenon of nature such as the origin of man".--etc so as not for any one to get offend & etc ( but as if there really are any christians in MY school)..but what I think is that if all those other religions are to be taught..hell why not the Bible also? I mean the Bible permeates our greatest literatue..and as for pryaer I think if people should have the freedom of choice to decide they DON'T want to or if they do WANT to..

I'm not sure what Christians you've come into contact with in your life thus far, but I don't fight for forced study of the Bible. I do think that Christian children should be allowed to express their beliefs freely within the confines of the school setting, so long as they are not prostyletizing (did i spell that right?). I also believe that atheists, Hindus, Muslims, etc should have those same rights. As far as prayer in school goes, I suppose that is something that would have to be discussed in an open forum with level headed people. I can understand why an atheist would not want to sit thru a prayer recited by a Christian. But I also believe a Christian student should be able to express his/her faith freely. If, as an atheist, you wanted your child to express their belief system within a school setting as it pertains to them, I would have no problem with it. I think, overall, we need to be more respectful of one another's rights as human beings.

I figure that if they want that stuff taught in schools, then witches should be able to teach about witchcraft and casting spells.
Love to see how that would go over.
America IS NOT a Christian nation and never was. The Founding Fathers were Deist and the contitution was specifically written with freedom of religion in mind (it DID NOT specify only the Christian religion but ALL religions).
Apparently Christians can't understand that.
Religion has no place in schools. Period. Of any sort.

For all you Christians out there who keep on saying the United States was founded on Christian principles, more of a deist. The founding fathers where not strict Christians they didn't believe in the same ideals. Now the schools weren't open to learn to read the bible such a thing would be a luxury. The larger reason was to get the necessary skilled labor for the booming industrial age.

oh! so it would be okay for Hindu kids to burn incense and pray to Shiva? how about the Muslim kids? they can pull out their pray rugs and face Mecca? should the Wiccan kids be allowed to cast spells in the school hallway?
i'm sorry but it would just be chaos. there isn't time enough in a school day to give every religion time and space to practice their religions.
you have home and church and nature in which to pray or send your child to a Christian school. public school is a place of learning not a place of worship.

There is Bible study and prayer in schools every day. JWs students do it all the time and no one tries to stop them. But then, they are taught the whole Bible, and how to teach it, right along side and from their parents, whereas parents of other religions would rather someone else teach their children.

this is why i thank our government every single day for our (supposed) seperation of church and state.
Religious based states (countries) are DOOMED to fail. This is why if you add up the gross national product of every single muslim country in the middle east, all of them together is LESS than the gross national product of Spain!!!!
It is kind of sad really. People in muslim countries are upset because their countries are so poor. Perhaps if they spent more time working, and less time praying, fighting over "holy" land in the desert, and fighting with one another, they would be more well off.
PLEASE DONT READ THE ANSWER BELOW MINE, THIS PERSON IS TRULY A MORON, AND HAS ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT

A newly elected Muslim member of congress is expecting to use the Koran and say So Help Me Allah!
I can't wait to see what happens and the reaction of Congress and the people!
It's a wake up call!

You know what...
... even ignoring the seperation of church and state... shouldn't they NOT spend large amounts of time in school just being quiet and meditating? I mean, tha'ts time that could be used learning, or preparing, or just good ol' extra lunch time! Effecient usage of resources people!!! If they had done that, maybe... JUST MAYBE... I would have learned how to spell.
