Don't do it! I think that people with pierced lips, and cheeks look like fish that got away with the lure still stuck in their mouths!

The pain level for a piercing is different for everyone. As far as comparing it to an ear piercing... it would depend whether you were talking about a lobe piercing or a cartilage piercing. I've had my lip (side) done and a labret and medusa. From my experience the lip hurt more than an earlobe piercing but hurt far less than a cartilage piercing. The pain during the piercing itself was (for me) pretty masked by the adrenaline. However, during the healing process there was quite a bit of dull achy pain. A lip piercing also is more work than say an eyebrow, nose or even tongue piercing because it has to be cleaned both on the outside and inside of the mouth. I'm not sure what kind of lip piercing you are considering, but make sure to research jewelry before you get it done. I got my labret in 1998, before fish tails were around, and my gums took quite a beating during the three years that I had it in.

Just so you know, everyone here will speak for themselves. Since everyone is different and feels pain differently, you won't be able to get the answer of how it will feel for YOU. Its a piercing, I can promise you will feel somethig.
In my opinion, its worse than having your ears pierced, but its a tolerable and quick pain. If you just take deep breaths you'll be okay. Most of the 'pain' will come from the following days when your lip is sore and you have to adjust to having metal in your face.

I had a Monroe piercing. I thought it hurt more than ears, ears just burn they don't hurt. If you are a baby don't do it. It will swell, if you get it infected, all these things will just make your experience worse. Easiest piercing to have is your eyebrow. No pain there, because there are hardly any nerve endings there. I have had 19 body piercings, and I don't recommend you getting this done.

When I got my lip pierced, it hurt a lot! I had a hard time eating for about 2 weeks afterward. It hurts much worse than getting your earlobes pierced. If you want a facial piercing that isn't that painful, I recommend getting your nose pierced. It hurts about as bad as getting your ear pierced.

I would imagine that anything that is going through a body part will hurt. Definitely a lip because you use it to eat and to talk. It's also not cartilage like your ear is.
