From my experience, you will get a better result by doing them in sets. This strategy allows the muscles to rest in between sets. Now, obviouslty the intensity will matter to your sets as well. However, it is better to maintain a constant and repetitive motion for the situps and pushups. Doing sets will allow to make sure you maintain the fluid motion and not get sloppy with the form, which will make a big difference if you are trying to target a certain muscle group.

100 consecutive push ups are much more difficult than, say, 10 sets of 10 reps. therefore you will get more stimulation to the muscle this way, but you will not add much size. if you want size, move to the weight set. 4 sets of 8 reps per exercise is a good mass regimen. for sit ups, it isn't the number of reps, but the intensity that matters most. move in a controlled manner and flex and squeeze your abs at the top. don't use momentum.

The best way to any exercise without weight is do as many as you can until you can pretty much do no more, and then try to match it a further 2 times. although, if you end up doing like 300 situps, then you probably should add weight so it's harder for you, otherwise it'll take you all day to exercise.

As I've been taught (I'm only a high-school kid, but my weight - lifting teacher is dang smart) and I've been taught sets (ex. 3 sets of 10) but you could do more, but the true key of any workout is to keep working the muscles when they get tired and you start to weaken and numb up. For endurance, go all out for as many as possible. For strength and endurance, go sets, it works as far as I know. Hope that helps :()
