We have been coming out of the last ice age for over 10,000 years now, and will continue to warm for about another 25,000 years minimum. Then depending on a lot of unknown factors, the earth my begin to cool again. Many things affect the fragile earth climate. Meteors can change things the fastest - hitting the delicate egg-shell like tectonic plates causing waves in the mantle setting off volcanoes all over the world, plunging us into clouds of volcanic ash darkness. Depleting the ozone - that thin layer of oxygen that protects all life on earth - can also allow earth's heat to escape into space causing the entire world to freeze in a short few thousand years of geologic time.

To those who say that we can't tell when the next Ice Age is coming: you are wrong! Periods of ice and glaciation happen in a very predicatble pattern. During the past billion years we have been able to tell that there have been over 20 periods of glacial retreat and advance. Right now the earth's climate is actually indicative of a time between two glacial periods. As for an exact date, sorry can't help you out there -- but it will come.

2,234 Years from next Tuesday. I don't think that anyone can really predict that with any degree of certainty.
If you think about how long this planet has been here, and how long mankind has had the ability to detect weather patterns on the globe. Then, you have to come to the realization that we really don't have enough congruent data to really make that kind of determination to predict the next Ice Age.
We've not gotten that good at predicting Hurricaines yet, or Tornadoes.
I wouldn't worry about the next Ice Age, Yellowstone is going to explode before that, but before Yellowstone explodes the poles of the planet will shift.
We're doomed, as doomed as doomed can be, you know.

Here's some doom and gloom for everyone: a scientist predicted that the next ice age could happen in as little as 10 years.
More bad news, the article was written 4 years ago.
There are all sorts of crazies out there, and some wear little white coats - this guy needs one with longer sleeves.

If you listen to all the hysteria about global warming who knows? One year we have record highs, the next record lows. Our earth is surley overpopulated but to think we in America are responsable and should suffer is wrong. Most of this stuff is junk science. Our country is doomed iif we let other countries tell us how to live.

Nobody knows, because there is not certain knowledge of the causes of the previous ice ages.
