Do people answer questions with lame answers just to earn point?

Yes. Often, they add "Thanks for the two points". The lame answers are frequently applied to lame questions. You will see that really good questions often have few or no lame answers.

Sometimes. Sometimes people are just in an odd mood when they answer. Sometimes they are annoyed with what they think are lame questions.

I've been in odd moods before, and I frequently get annoyed with non-insurance questions posted on the insurance board. Like this one. But I still gave you an honest answer.

I'm very new to all this , but I'm at a loss to know what is the purpose of gaining all these points. What can you do with them. Can you get prizes? Can you boast and brag at the pub?Can you use them to decorate the hall? Can I put it on my CV? Are they like air miles? Will they end up on my driving licence?
Will they make me a better person? Hallelujah
