My wife just about KILLED me when I went and got our pitbull Sadie fixed! She was VERY distraught by it and now won't speak to me! They dog is ruddy 3 years old and should have had it done 2 and a half years ago, but i let it slide! But enough was enough and I got her fixed and now she's ANGRY! Everyone around our neighborhood wants their studs to BREED with her! She's a full blood American Staffordshire Terrier (Yes, a pittbull) and I won't have it! They won't breed their males with her because I'm sure I know their sadistic motives with the pups! She was in heat and bleeding all over the ruddy carpet and I didn't want the girls to be near her because she'd bleed all on them! She didn't get tempermental during this time (doesn't havea bit of a temper on her), but the menstrul blood, UGH! My five year old girls don't know why mummy is mad and I sure don't myself! She doesn't want to breed her either, so why do you think she's mad at me over it?? Just to be mad?? Does anyone know?? :-\

And don't give me lip about having a pit bull with my 5 year olds, it gets old, and the old stereotypes don't pack any volume anymore, she's an amazingly sweet girl, so get the bloody heck over it!

Well, I'm certainly not going to yell or criticize you because of the breed. Pits can be wonderful dogs and it's a shame they they got as bad name and are stereotyped because of it..

That being said, I think that you did the right thing when you got Sadie spayed.Sure everyone in the neighbor wants to stud with her and you're probably right about the reason, too.

That being said, what about the health and well being of your dog? What if poor Sadie needed to have a C-Section? I'm sure that these people wouldn't want to go through the expense health testing their stud either. It's really very sad, and your wife needs to realize that she's wrong.

Give her some time to think it over ans she'll realize that you are right. Sadie will live most likely live a longer, happier life being spayed as well, sine her risks to several types of cancer are now eliminated.

Good luck. Your wife will eventually realize that you did the right thing.

PS - Give Sadie a belly rub from me, too :-)

Did you talk to your wife before taking the dog to be spayed? If not, maybe that's the reason. Otherwise, if she really doesn't want to breed the dog, then I don't see any reason why she should be angry.
I guess it's possible that she's projecting her own feelings of womanhood on the dog. She might think that having a working uterus and ovaries is what makes her a woman and she wouldn't want that taken away from her. So, she's upset because that's what's happened to the dog. If that's ther reason, try to explain that dogs are not people. She (the dog) has no concept of femininity, womanhood, or whatever. She won't even know what's happened to her.
I would just go over all the reasons FOR having the dog spayed with your wife, if you haven't done so already.
She will no longer suffer the frustration from not being allowed to breed. Her chances of getting uterine and ovarian cancers are completely eliminated. The risk of breast cancer is greatly reduced. No chance of contracting pyometra (infection of the uterus) which can be life-threatening. No unwanted puppies, no messes to clean up from the bleeding, no male dogs hanging around.
Your dog will be happier and healthier, thus, maker her a better companion for you and your family. You've just done your dog, your family, and the community in general a huge favor. I sure hope your wife comes around. Good luck!

Good for you getting her fixed. These days there are to many people out there that will breed their dogs withouit thinking about the fact that there are way to many dogs that are homeless and have no family to love and take care of them. It was very responsible of you to get your dog fixed. So you shouldn't feel bad. She will be alot better off and it has been discovered through scientific study that dogs that are spayed or neutered usually live longer and have fewer health problems. Such as in testicular cancer in males. Also it's been determined through studies that female dog that are bred numerous time have a high risk of tumors growing inside the ueterous and there have been lots of cases of cancer in females because of numerous breedings. Besides she'll be alot more content if she doesn't have to go through the seperation anxieties if she was to loose pups to puppy death or when you get rid of them. So tell your wife to get over it and stop being an immature child about the whole thing and just enjoy your dog as a family. Remember dogs see you guys as a pack and can feel when there is stress and decintion within the pack structure. This can cause anxiety and stress in the dog. So by by your wife acting like this toward you is causing more of a problem for the dog than she probably realizes. Trust me you did the dog a favor by getting her fixed. Ask your wife this. How would she like it if someone made her have a baby and then sold it or gave it away after a few weeks?. Because I don't think you or her had intentions in keeping the pups if she was to have a litter. GOOD LUCK.

It may be that your wife in unfamiliar with the serious complications that can result from having a female dog who's still intact.

There are a number of problems that can arise from pregnancy - it's not always the smooth and seamless even we'd like to think it is. Some dogs can't birth and have to endure a surgical intervention, costly for you and painful for her. Puppies are expensive to raise and provide veterinary care for them while they're waiting to be adopted. There's always the possibility that the puppies won't be healthy, and the loss of babies can be devastating to the entire family, particularly five-year-old-girls.

Even if your wife opted not to breed her, there are problems associated with the estrogen over the course of time. Dogs who aren't spayed have a significantly higher instance of mammary tumors with each heat - an aggressive and difficult form of cancer to treat. They can develop uterine infections that make them incredibly ill, and have to be spayed anyway.

Hopefully when your wife sees how good it is for your girl to be spayed, she'll see it's the best thing for her. Her intentions should always have the dog's well being in mind, and this is the right thing to do. There's always the possibility that she's just angry you did this without her consent - but like I said, you were only doing right by your dog, so she should thank you.

I can understand what MIGHT be causing your wife to be upset. You went and did IT without discussing it with her first. Perhaps she wanted to be there to give emotional support to your dog. I'm sure she's emotionally close to your dog from the way it sounds to me.When I had a dog, I would make a little pantie with a pad in it to catch whatever flowed out so there would not be a bloody mess all over the place. At least until I tried to have her mated, then she was eventually spayed. Try to make up with your wife, for the sake of your two five year old daughters. Good luck.

I have no idea. The only way you're going to find out is if she tells you or you become a mind reader. If she didn't want to breed the dog, I don't get it. There are way too many dogs in the world and spaying the dog helps lesson any health risks. Plus, it's hard to trust that someone will have good intentions with those puppies. There are some crazy people out there giving Pits bad names.

If she is a bleeder I do not blame you. I also think you were right to have her fixed if the people who wanted to breed their dogs with your was up to no good. Just what we need more a$$ Holes who fight their dogs and give the rest of us a bad way to go. She may be upset if she had plans to show your dog now she can't. Mine dose not have a bad temper ether. The little mixed breed that as no pit bull in her is as mean as a wet cat to everyone not in the family.

not to say anything bad about your wife but she should care more about your dog than the money you might have made on the puppies. but you said she didnt want to breed her so i guess thats not it. Good for you on getting her spayed!! you just bought yourself years more of her life as well as a healthier, happier dog, not to mention you--no more blood i agree that would be gross!
is she mad because you took the dogs 'womanhood' away from her maybe? just a guess. if she cares about you, your kids, or your dog she will get over it. you did the right thing. although you say she has never lost her temper she could have. i love pitbulls but you have to remember they are very powerful dogs and a female in heat is bad enough without that power behind her!! :) let your wife know you may have just saved yourselves alot of heartach.
Good luck!!

Maybe your wife was thinking about breeding the dog? And the only thing I am to say about her being around small kids is some times a Pit bull can hurt a kid bad just playing with them if she gets too rough, and pit bulls are rough dogs.

Haha. Aren't you the guy with the wife who treats her dog better than your children? No offense. ^^

I'd tell her it was for the best. A spayed dog actually lives longer than a dog that isn't fixed. It reduces the risks of various health risks and an unwanted litter of puppies; reducing the number of unwanted pets.

Your wife is probably just angry because you did it without her consent. After all, it /is/ her little baby. It's like letting your child get a tattoo without her knowing it.

Just let her cool off and she'll get over it.
